There will be no Juice email next Monday, Nov. 25, due to Thanksgiving Break. Please send in your items by Tuesday, Nov. 26, to be included in the Dec. 2 Juice. The final Juice of the Fall Term will be Monday, Dec. 16. The Juice will then take a break until Winter Term and return on Monday, Jan. 6.

Davis Projects for Peace meeting Dec. 5
|
The Davis Projects for Peace program provides an opportunity for undergraduates at the American colleges and universities in the Davis United World College Scholars Program to design grassroots projects that they will implement during the summer of 2020. The projects judged to be the most promising and feasible will be funded at $10,000 each to encourage and support ideas for building peace.
An informational session will be offered in the Hub Conference Room on Thursday, Dec. 5, during Community Time at 11:30 a.m. Wartburg students wishing to submit a Davis Projects for Peace proposal must submit their application using this link by noon Jan. 13, 2020.

Join Student Life’s Holiday Kickoff on Wednesday

The Student Life office invites you to a holiday season kickoff event Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. outside McCaskey Lyceum in Saemann Student Center. Student Life staff will be decorating the Student Center Christmas tree and will be serving free Christmas cookies and hot chocolate. We look forward to seeing you!

Recipes from Home submissions
|
Students, faculty and staff are asked to share their favorite recipes from home to be considered for the 2020-21 Mensa menu! Recipes for entrees, salads, ethnic dishes, vegan entrees or sides, and desserts can be emailed to shelly.geweke@wartburg.edu by Friday, Dec. 13. Don’t forget to include your name and contact information for any questions that we may have. Recipes chosen will be taste-tested in Mensa, and the student body will vote for their favorites. Dishes that receive a “thumbs up” will be considered for next year’s Mensa menu.

Holiday Shoppe volunteers needed
|
The Department of Social Work is pairing up with the Waverly-Shell Rock United Way to put on Holiday Shoppe on Monday, Dec. 9, and Tuesday, Dec. 10. Holiday Shoppe is an opportunity for us to give back to the community by giving families the opportunity to select gifts for their children during the holiday season. We are looking for volunteers to assist us during the days of the Shoppe, with set-up and tear-down. Sign your group up for 'Cans for a Cause'
|
“Cans for a Cause” is an opportunity for student groups to raise money for their organization while contributing to campus sustainability. On Sundays at 7 p.m., two to five volunteers from a group meet a Sustainability student worker at the Physical Plant, where redeemable cans and bottles are sorted. The bottles and cans are then weighed, and the student organization receives the money from the deposits from what they sorted. Sign up by emailing the VAC.

Many of the Summer 2020 classes are now available to view online by using Course Finder or Course Search. To register for summer classes, obtain a Summer Registration Form under the Special Request Forms for Students from the Academics tab of My Wartburg or in the Registrar’s Office. Please continue to check the schedule as additional classes may be added.

2019-20 German Institute funding opportunity
|
The Executive Committee of the German Institute announces the 2019-20 call for applications to support activities/endeavors related to German and/or Germany. For 2019-20, a total of $2,000 is still available from external sources. Because these funds are limited, an application is required and will be awarded on a competitive basis. Applications for the full amount of available funds will most likely not be supported in full. Applications are due Dec. 6. Awards will be announced no later than Dec. 13. In the past, the Institute has funded enrichments to May Term trips to Germany, the German film festival, learning materials for the faculty/staff heritage tour, and subsidized student travel to Germany for study abroad. The next Math, Computer Science & Physics (MCSP) Department Seminar will be held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 11:30 a.m. in room 134 of the Science Center. Nicki Schneider, a junior mathematics major, will discuss her summer research experience in a presentation entitled, "Cops and Robbers on Graphs." All are invited and refreshments will be provided.

Please remember to use caution when snow and ice are present on sidewalks and steps. Operations & Maintenance will remove snow and add salt or sand to icy spots on sidewalks and steps on campus according to the priority snow removal map. Parking lots will be cleared and salted or sanded as needed by a third party.

Decorate a tree for Festival of Trees
|
The annual Wartburg-Waverly Festival of Trees will brighten the halls of Wartburg’s Classroom Technology Center Dec. 4-17. If your office, academic department, or group/organization would like to decorate a Christmas tree to display, please sign up by Friday, Nov. 22. For more information and/or to sign up, go to www.wartburg.edu/trees. Contact Beth Sinnwell with questions. A partnership between the college and Waverly Chamber of Commerce, the festival is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and attracts more than 5,000 guests each year. There is no entry fee or admission charge.

Introducting new assistant VP of ITS
|
Wartburg welcomes Loni Abbas, assistant vice president of ITS and chief information officer. She directs the activities of the ITS staff, the production manager and the broadcast engineer. She is a three-time graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, receiving a BA in computer science in 1989, an MS in computer science in 1998, and a Doctor of Technology in 2014. She previously worked at the University of Northern Iowa in a variety of technology capacities.

'Date Knight' hosted by softball team

A new Fit desk is ready for your use at Vogel Library on the third floor near the archives. It has a flat tray so you can use a laptop or read books or notes while pedaling your way to better health. New art exhibition open through Dec. 19

The new exhibit “The View from Here: Reflections of the Iowa Landscape—Paintings by Kirk Hovenga” is now open in Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery. Iowa native Kirk Hovenga returned home to Iowa and began to re-familiarize himself with the natural rural landscape he remembered from his childhood. Hovenga’s recent work explores the indelible mark of memory, light, and the vibrancy of the Iowa terrain. Hours: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. daily; free and open to the public. Wartburg receives 2nd in Rising Star category
|
CampusLabs has named Wartburg College the second place Rising Star award winner “for its work in implementing CoursEval using the option for in-class evaluations, as well as for their campus-wide, phased-in approach to implementing Chalk & Wire.” The Rising Star Award is given to “the campuses that, within one year of implementing their Campus Labs tool(s), have already shown they’re on a unique and promising path to sustainable success.” Thank you to everyone for their hard work and dedication to make this happen.

Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester.
