Spiritual climate survey — It is hoped that a large number of students will participate in the Interfaith Youth Campus Religious and Spiritual Climate Survey that will be administered on campus beginning March 1. The survey is designed to give students of all religious and cultural backgrounds the opportunity to express their views on how Wartburg is doing in fostering a climate of respect and cooperation. Please share this information with students and help make it clear that this is an opportunity to strengthen our support for all of them. The survey will be administered via the web, and invitations will come via email March 1. As an incentive to students, those who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for one of a dozen $30 Amazon.com gift cards. Old Main access — The south doors to Old Main are locked through Friday, Feb. 20, due to the cold. Please use the north entrance.
Film festival concludes — The final selection in the Tournées French Film Festival will be shown Wednesday, Feb. 25, 6 p.m., in Whitehouse Business Center 116. The Lovely Month of May is a French classic that reveals Parisians' thoughts on political and social matters at the end of the Algerian War in 1962. Admission to the series is free, popcorn will be served, and discussion will be provided by students in FR 275 Intro to French & Francophone Film. No knowledge of French is required to participate. LGBTQ book night — Children can enjoy LGBTQ-friendly books read by Wartburg students tonight, Feb. 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at the Waverly Public Library. Direct questions to Cassie Hales, assistant director of residential life, at cassandra.hales@wartburg.edu.
STEM for women — A program on attracting girls and women to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields will be tonight, Feb. 19, in Science Center 134. A social starts at 6 p.m. and the program will be from 6:30 to 7:30. Speakers include Marcy Seavey, University of Northern Iowa STEM coordinator, and Stephani Keller, N.E. Iowa Regional STEM Hub associate.
Gayla Week 2015 — Join Alliance in Gayla Week 2015, themed gaY2K–Party like it's 1999! Events run through Saturday, Feb. 21. Highlights include a panel discussion today, Feb. 19, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in the McCoy rooms of Saemann Student Center and a drag show Saturday, 7:30 p.m., in Neumann Auditorium. Homecoming, Family Weekend join — Two Wartburg traditions are merging this fall. Homecoming and Family Weekend each will be Oct. 1-4. The Alumni & Parent Relations Office is excited to bring all Wartburg constituents together at once. In 2016, Homecoming and Family Weekend will be Oct. 13-16. The dates will be Oct. 19-22 in 2017. Convocation series changes — Convocations will be limited starting in academic year 2015-16. While annual events such as opening convocation will continue, those featuring guest speakers will be less frequent. This change is one of the measures recently identified to help reduce institutional expenses.
Employee health screen — The Wartburg employee health screen is Tuesday, March 24, 7-8:30 a.m., in The W. Wartburg College will cover the cost of the basic health screen for full-time/benefit-eligible employees. The cost of basic screening also will be covered for spouses participating in the wellness program and on Wartburg health insurance. Additional testing is available at the expense of the participant. Reminder from registrar — The Registrar's Office reminds all students they are required to meet with their adviser to discuss and clear their proposed schedule before registering for 2015-16 classes. (Students with two advisers need to meet with only one.) Students should verify adviser information through the "Advising" tab on their My Wartburg home page; contact the Registrar's Office at 352-8272 if your adviser information is incorrect. Only an adviser listed will be able to authorize a student for online registration.
Phil & Lit — The Wartburg Philosophical & Literary Society will meet Friday, Feb. 20, 4 p.m., in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. Allan Bernard, assistant professor of business administration, will speak on The Relationship between Servant Leadership Style, Information Technology Project Success, and Organizational Strategy Alignment.
Title IX contact — All educational institutions receiving federal financial assistance must designate at least one employee to coordinate their responsibilities under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits sex discrimination in education programs and activities. Find your direction — The W is partnering with Waverly Health Center and Hy-Vee to provide a healthy living program beginning Thursday, Feb. 26. The Compass program will meet at 5:30 p.m. at The W. The five-week program will help participants establish and maintain long-term, healthy behavior changes. It includes a personalized exercise program and nutritional guidance. Register by Thursday, Feb. 19 by calling 319-483-1361. There is a fee to participate.
