KWAR informational DJ meeting

Interested in having your own radio show where you can talk about sports, entertainment, politics, music or whatever you want? KWAR is looking for students and faculty interested in having a radio show. There will be an informational meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. in McElroy Center 134. Make music with Sanctuary worship band
|
Sanctuary is a place for Bible study, fellowship, worship band music, prayers, and communion that takes place every Wednesday night from 9 to 10 p.m. If you would like to join Sanctuary worship band, come to placements on Monday, Sept. 16, 7 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel. Bands are a very low time commitment, around an hour or less each week. We accept anyone and everyone at Sanctuary and bands are no exception to that. If you are unable to attend placements but would still like this opportunity to be in a band, please contact Braden Daniels or stop by our booth at the Involvement Fair on Sept. 18.

UHaul CarShare has recently discontinued its program at Wartburg and many other regional schools. Although a vehicle is parked in front of the Saemann Student Center, it is not available for rental. Student Life is actively researching other car sharing options and will pass on more information as it becomes available.

Wartburg College Republicans will be passing out pocket editions of the U.S. Constitution on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the campus lawn and inside Saemann Student Center. Contact Emily Russell with questions.

Constitution Day event Sept. 26
|
“Constitution 101” will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in the McCaskey Lyceum in the Saemann Student Center to commemorate Constitution Day. The panel will include Dr. Fred Waldstein, Wartburg political science professor; Peter Newell, a district associate judge in Iowa’s second judicial district for more than 25 years; and Karen Thalacker, a judicial magistrate in Bremer County for more than 10 years. The trio will share basic information about the U.S. Constitution and then discuss how to analyze and discuss several hot button issues facing our society, including voter registration issues, criminal law, impeachment and the emoluments clause.

Recruiter for ELCA Global Mission on campus
|
Jenna Leazott, a short-term recruiter for ELCA Global Mission, is traveling throughout the Midwest to share stories from her Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) year in Mexico and to provide information about the ways that young adults can become involved in global service through the ELCA. Every year, the ELCA supports 60-90 young adults as they serve in a wide variety of volunteer roles on five different continents. The program is a deeply transformative way to spend a year or more after college graduation. Leazott will be at Weekday Chapel on Monday, Sept. 23, and can visit with students afterwards for a Q&A. She will be in the Tower Room (in the Chapel Office) from 10:45 a.m. to noon. Student can also contact Leazott via email to meet at another time or to ask questions about the program.

Apply to attend Clinton Global Initiative University Gathering in Scotland
|
The Clinton Global Initiative University is looking for students committed to making impacts in different fields to join its next cohort! In addition to a year-long engagement opportunities, all accepted students will be invited to CGI U’s first-ever international meeting hosted by President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, April 17-19, 2020. Students will hear from topic experts, form meaningful connections with one another, and learn how to turn their ideas into action. Apply by Oct. 15 to join CGI U’s global community of leaders. Phil and Lit Society meets Friday

The first fall meeting of the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will be Friday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m. in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. Faculty, staff, students and community members are encouraged to attend. The speaker is Michael Lubbers, a Wartburg alum and a 19-year employee of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, who will present “Compost Connections” describing how we all must be involved in the regeneration of life in us on us and around us.

American Association of University Women kicks off 2019-20 year

The Waverly branch of the AAUW (American Association of University Women) is kicking off their 2019-20 year with a dinner and program at the Waverly Country Club on Sept. 19 at 5:30 p.m. AAUW is an organization dedicated to equity and education for girls and women; Wartburg College is an institutional member. Those who are interested (students/staff/faculty) may attend as a guest by RSVPing to karen.lehmann@wartburg.edu by Monday, Sept. 16. The cost of the meal is $12. Organist to perform Sunday
|
Internationally recognized organist Erik Suter will perform a special concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in the Wartburg Chapel. The concert will feature music from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Sebastian Bach and others. Suter, the son of Rick and Gina Suter of Waverly, is a commercial airline pilot and concert organist. He served as the organist at Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., for nearly 10 years.

Women’s soccer team selling PuraVida bracelets

The Wartburg women’s soccer team is selling Wartburg Pura Vida bracelets for $8. Money raised will go toward new home uniforms. The special bracelets are awesome, unisex and a great way to show Wartburg pride. They make great, affordable gifts. Contact Leana Place, Old Main 306, or by email to purchase. The bracelets will be available at the Sept. 14 home game at 5 p.m. unless they sell out before that time. We plan to reorder if the demand is high! Political signs on campus
|
As the campaign season swings into full gear, please remember that political signs are allowed in residence hall rooms, on residence hall doors, and in residence hall windows (though not hanging outside the window on the building). However, signs are not allowed in public spaces, like lounges, laundry rooms, or bathrooms. Any posters placed on a residence hall bulletin board must follow the college’s posting policies and be approved by Student Life before they can be posted.

Library Ambassador Program seeking student volunteers

New for 2019-2020, Vogel Library is seeking student volunteers for its Library Ambassador Program. The group is tasked with advocating for Vogel Library by promoting library resources, spaces and services in formal and informal ways, and also engaging student perspectives and voices in conversation to ensure Vogel Library is inclusive of all students at Wartburg College. The volunteer program for second through fourth year students at the Waverly Health Center is now accepting applications for fall orientation. Van transportation is provided to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly for the 10 a.m. Mass on Sundays for the foreseeable future. Students can meet in front of the info desk by 9:30. The Catholic Knights group will host Mass on campus the following dates: Nov. 7, Jan. 9 and March 12. Mass is held in the Wartburg Chapel beginning at 9 p.m. Do you have questions about Catholic Knights? Professor Justin Crouse is the faculty advisor and welcomes your questions.

Sanctuary on Wednesday nights

Sanctuary is a holy space in the midst of your busy life where you can recharge and renew. Expect a relaxed time of bible study, fellowship, worship band music, prayers, and communion.
