Women’s soccer team selling PuraVida bracelets

The Wartburg women’s soccer team is selling Wartburg Pura Vida bracelets for $8. Money raised will go toward new home uniforms. The special bracelets are awesome, unisex and a great way to show Wartburg pride. They make great, affordable gifts. Contact Leana Place, Old Main 306, or by email to purchase. The bracelets will be available at the Sept. 14 home game at 5 p.m. unless they sell out before that time. We plan to reorder if the demand is high! Political signs on campus
|
As the campaign season swings into full gear, please remember that political signs are allowed in residence hall rooms, on residence hall doors, and in residence hall windows (though not hanging outside the window on the building). However, signs are not allowed in public spaces, like lounges, laundry rooms, or bathrooms. Any posters placed on a residence hall bulletin board must follow the college’s posting policies and be approved by Student Life before they can be posted.

Math, Computer Science & Physics (MCSP) Department Seminar Series

The Math, Computer Science & Physics (MCSP) Department Seminar Series features presentations by students, faculty, alumni and other speakers on subjects related to the various disciplines in the MCSP Department. The first seminar of the year will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 11:30 a.m. in Science Center Room 134. Darby Kramer '20, a physics and mathematics double-major, will present "Using PNLF to Determine Distances to Nearby Galaxies Imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope," based on her astrophysics summer research experience at SUNY-Geneseo. All are invited, and refreshments will be provided.

Phil and Lit Society meets Friday

The first fall meeting of the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will be Friday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. The speaker is Dr. Rachel Clark, professor of English and Scholars Program director, who will present “Witchcraft and Disability in Early Modern England.” Everyone is welcome.

Library Ambassador Program seeking student volunteers

New for 2019-2020, Vogel Library is seeking student volunteers for its Library Ambassador Program. The group is tasked with advocating for Vogel Library by promoting library resources, spaces and services in formal and informal ways, and also engaging student perspectives and voices in conversation to ensure Vogel Library is inclusive of all students at Wartburg College. Come see “Shifting Definitions of Beauty: Selections from the Collection of Robert H. Knox” in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery, on the first floor of the Bachman Fine Arts Center, from Sept. 4 to Oct. 27. Wartburg Department of Art lecturer Robert Knox shares his extensive collection of German expressionist, modernist, and post-modern art gathered over several decades. Knox’s collection includes an original Marc Chagall painting as well as signed prints from Pablo Picasso, Keith Haring, Max Ernst, and many more.

Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester.

Van transportation is provided to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly for the 10 a.m. Mass on Sundays for the foreseeable future. Students can meet in front of the info desk by 9:30. The Catholic Knights group will host Mass on campus the following dates: Sept. 12, Nov. 7, Jan. 9 and March 12. Mass is held in the Wartburg Chapel beginning at 9 p.m. Do you have questions about Catholic Knights? Professor Justin Crouse is the faculty advisor and welcomes your questions.

Sanctuary on Wednesday nights

Sanctuary is a holy space in the midst of your busy life where you can recharge and renew. Expect a relaxed time of bible study, fellowship, worship band music, prayers, and communion. It takes place on Wednesday evenings at 9 p.m. in the Chapel Commons (basement). Come by at 8:45 for snacks and fellowship. All are welcome!
