Vocal concert: Harmonia Mundi

Student-led vocal ensembles, including Pinnacle, Festeberg, and Rosenchor, will present “Harmonia Mundi” concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in the Wartburg Chapel. This event is to celebrate unity through song.

There will be no incoming or outgoing postal mail Monday, Feb. 18, in observance of Presidents Day. All incoming mail from Feb. 16, 17, and 18 will be processed Feb. 19. This may affect some Amazon deliveries. UPS and FedEx deliveries will maintain regular service for the federal holiday. The Mail Center has resumed the ability to receive All-Campus Spending as payment for postage, envelopes, and shipping at the service window; no discount is given for use of ACS at the Mail Center. The Mail Center will be open regular hours (9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) during the week of Winter Break.

2nd annual Big Knight Out event
|
Student Senate will be hosting Big Knight Out this Friday, Feb. 22, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Sasquatch Jacks. Student Senate will provide appetizers and will pay the cover charge for the first 75 people who are under age 21. If you are 21 or over, it is free. Come out to sing, dance, and have some fun! This event is open to all students.

The Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will meet Friday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. The speaker is Dr. Sonja Lynch, associate professor of English, who will present “Art, Allusion and Adaptation in H. P. Lovecraft’s ‘Pickman’s Model.’ ”

Now is a great opportunity to create or build your profile. Phi Beta Lambda is hosting a LinkedIn Workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 7-8 p.m. in WBC 117. This event will offer professional headshots from 7 to 7:30 p.m. and a workshop that will help students build their profiles, create personal statements and make connections. Although Phi Beta Lambda is a business organization, this event welcomes all majors. PBL also will host an additional session of professional headshots Thursday, Feb. 21, 12:30-1 p.m. Professional headshots will be taken in the photography studio in the basement of the FAC. If you need assistance in finding this location, please meet in WBC 117.

Global Connections candlelight dinner
|
Sign-up for the candlelight dinner hosted by Global Connections will be Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 20 and 21, 5-7 p.m. in Mensa. Global Connections will talk about the organization while students, faculty and staff mingle over dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 6:30 p.m., in the Heritage Ballroom in Saemann Student Center. The cost for students with a Board Plan is one swipe from their meal plan and $3. This may be paid with points or cash at the time of sign up. Off-board students may also attend, and their cost will be $15 at the time of sign up. Special dietary considerations will be taken into account.

Students offer free tax assistance
|
Accounting students at Wartburg will offer free income tax assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which is open to the public. Students will assist in the preparation of tax returns every Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 19-April 15, 2-4 p.m., in WBC Room 101. No appointment is necessary. Registration hold reminder
|
If you received an e-mail from the Registrar’s Office on Feb. 6 about declaring your major or submitting a diploma application, Friday is the last day to submit the missing form(s). Students who have not submitted the appropriate form(s) by 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, will have a registration hold placed on their account to prevent them from registering on Monday, March 11. At this time, more than 70 students have not met this deadline.

Wartburg College Dance Marathon is a nonprofit organization that raises funds for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The money raised goes to kids with pediatric illnesses and injuries and their families in order for them to live the best life possible. 'Memory Beads' exhibit at art gallery
|
One part traditional exhibition and one part history lesson, "Memory Beads" pairs Christine Flavin’s imagery alongside displays of the historical tools of the photographic trade: antique cameras, daguerreotypes, tintypes, albumen cabinet cards and more. An Artist Reception will be Friday, Feb. 22, 6-8 p.m. in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery on the first floor of the Bachman Fine Arts Center, with a Gallery Talk at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The gallery is open to the public 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Have you completed your scholarship thank-you?

Students who receive donor-funded scholarships as part of their financial aid package have received an email with details about completing a thank-you note. Students who have not finished their thank you notes by the end of this week will be contacted by their academic advisers to do so. To write your thank-you note, please look for a Dec. 18 email from Scott Leisinger with the subject “Please complete your scholarship thank you note.” In that email, you’ll find a personalized link to complete your thank you note. If you have questions, contact Kim Bunce.

Weekday Chapel services are from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Wartburg Chapel; Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester.

New discernment group for students
|
Students are invited to a discernment group called "(w)holy listening" after Sanctuary at 10 p.m. Wednesdays in Chapel Commons (basement of the Chapel). Halcyon Bjornstad, director for the Integrated BA/MDIV Degree program, leads the group for any student who is interested in listening to God's call in their life. Whether that is choosing a major or deciding what to do this summer, all are welcome to join. For more information, contact Halcyon.
