| Wartburg EARTH club crafting event |
Join the Wartburg EARTH club on Thursday, Nov. 29, for a little sustainable crafting to get into the holiday spirit! At EARTH’s Recycled Holiday Ornament event, reuse recyclable items to create fun holiday decorations with minimal environmental impact. | Indian dance and henna |
The Asian Student Association will have Indian dance and free henna Thursday, Nov. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. in The W classrooms. Instructors will help teach you Indian dances in a group, and the best group performance will be rewarded with prizes; dancing will be followed by an hour of henna for free! | Festival of Trees begins this week |
|
The annual Wartburg-Waverly Festival of Trees will brighten the halls of the Classroom Technology Center Nov. 28-Dec. 12. A partnership between the college and the Waverly Chamber of Commerce, the festival is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and attracts more than 5,000 guests each year. |

| Nominate an alum to be recognized |
| The Wartburg Alumni Citation recognizes contributions and support to the college, vocational and professional achievements, and community and/or church leadership. Lois Volkmann Jelneck ’50, Judith Slade McCaskey ’65, and Michael Sinram ’75 received the honor at Homecoming. Nominations for the 2019 awards and a list of recipients can be found here. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 1. |

Any interested faculty or staff are invited to attend one of the Budget Overview meetings, where information will be shared about the college’s budget and the budget process. The meetings will be held in McCoy West on the following dates and times:

| Humanist author to speak |
Author Chris Stedman speaks powerfully about how the Lutheran tradition intersected with his story (coming out as a teen and majoring in religion at Augsburg as part of discerning his humanist worldview). He will give a public talk titled “Faitheist: How the Lutheran Church Influenced an Atheist Activist” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in McCaskey Lyceum. A reception (free food!) and book-signing will follow in the Castle Room. Click here to read more about Stedman’s book in a blog post by Dr. Caryn Riswold. This event is an example of how the Lutheran heritage and mission of Wartburg is expansive and inclusive. Stedman will also speak in weekday chapel on Friday, Dec 7.

| Holiday Shoppe gift trees |
This holiday season, please consider giving a gift to a child in need by participating in Holiday Shoppe. Keep an eye out for trees with ornaments on campus describing gifts for children within our local community. Simply take an ornament, donate a gift, and return the gift underneath the tree. This is an easy way to make a heartwarming, direct impact as an individual, an organization, or with a group of friends. Gifts need to be returned by Nov. 30. | Salsa Night |
| Salsa Night will be Friday, Nov. 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. in The W classrooms. The first hour will have instructors to help teach the dances and the next hour will be open to come and go as desired. | Free fitness class offered Tuesdays, Thursdays |

All students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in our new student-led "Freshman 15" fitness class (don't worry, it's not just for students!). This FREE class is instructed by students studying fitness management and offers a variety of exercises ranging from (but not limited to) strength and core work, yoga, and cycling. The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, noon to 12:45 p.m. in The W. This month's remaining schedule is:

Fund the Fortress is Wartburg’s crowdfunding platform used to directly impact areas of campus through online giving. We’ve had an excellent Fall Term so far, raising $50,000 (and counting) towards special projects on campus. Applications are being accepted for new projects through Dec. 1. Examples of projects and applications can be submitted at this link. |

| Center for Integrative and Interdisciplinary Studies |
| Dr. David McCullough will begin service as the first director of the Center for Integrative and Interdisciplinary Studies at Wartburg College. This center, developed as part of the Focus on the Future planning process, is dedicated to supporting and extending Wartburg’s signature integrative and interdisciplinary focus, described in Goal 1 of our strategic plan. David has been a longtime leader of and advocate for interdisciplinary education on our campus. For the 2018-19 academic year, David will be charged with the stewardship of the ID tier of general education, including contributing to learning outcomes assessment in this area. In addition, he will take a leadership role in the search for a new study abroad administrator and will be charged with advancing four projects that will shape the future of the center: investigating physical space for the center, developing external funding, moving forward with a proposal to hire a Chair in Ethics, and exploring faculty development. |

| Julianna Elizabeth Bousquet has joined the family of Dr. Ben Bousquet and Dr. Samantha Larimer Bousquet by adoption. She was born Nov. 3, weighing 6 lbs., 9 oz. and measuring 19 1/4 inches long. |

Dr. Kunihiko Terasawa, associate professor of religion, attended the Parliament of World Religions on Nov. 1 in Toronto, Canada, where 10,000 religious leaders gathered from all over the world. Terasawa also attended the American Academy of Religions in Denver, Colo., Nov. 16-20. During the conference, he was officially elected as a board member of the Society for Buddhist-Christian Studies.
