NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Contribute to the Castle The Castle is accepting submissions today, Oct. 13-Friday, Oct. 24, of short stories, essays, poetry, and photography. New this year, submit graphic design and other two-dimensional mediums of art (drawings, paintings, etc.). Send submissions in PDF form to castle@wartburg.edu to be considered for publication in the fall edition. 


Happy Homecoming Week! 
— Thanks in advance to faculty, staff, and students for welcoming back to campus more than 1,000 alumni and friends during Homecoming weekend. Your warm greetings, hugs and smiles, and genuine hospitality make it a special experience for all Wartburgers, young and old. Thank Our Donors Day
 — Students UKnight (formerly known as STALC) and the Advancement Office are hosting Thank Our Donors Day today, Oct. 13. Stop by the tent outside Saemann Student Center (or in Shotwell Tower in case of rain) 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to have your picture taken with your own message of gratitude. Pictures will be used in a variety of ways throughout the year to thank donors for their support.


Student-led seminar 
— The next Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar will be Tuesday, Oct. 14, 11:30 a.m., in Science Center 134. Bailey Wilson ’15 will present Actuarial Pricing Intern Experience at Nationwide, based on her summer internship. Alex Jenson ’15 will present Quantifying the Heating Needed to Induce Hardness Increase in Laser-Water Jet Treated Cubic Boron Nitride, based on his research at Iowa State University.


Alumnus recital
 — The Department of Music welcomes back tenor Brian Stinar ’94 for a guest recital Wednesday, Oct. 15, 7:30 p.m., in Sandra Rada Orchestra Hall, Fine Arts Center. Stinar has received critical acclaim while playing leading roles nationwide. With more than 15 years of teaching experience, Stinar specializes in operatic and musical theater techniques for singers, actors, and dancers. He will return in March 2015 for a special appearance as Frederick in the Artist Series production of The Pirates of Penzance. Click here for more information on the Estherville native.


Mid-term notices
— Mid-term notices will go out in campus mail this week to students doing D- or F-level work in classes. All students are encouraged to monitor their progress in classes according to instructions on course syllabi. Those receiving notices should see their professor and adviser right away.


September paychecks
— Student paychecks for hours worked in September will be available in the Business Office, Luther Hall 212, on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Those who elected to have wages deposited into a bank account or to have 100 percent of wages applied to their tuition bill will receive their pay stub through campus mail.


PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Naming ceremony — The Board of Regents approved the naming of the north and east wings of the Science Center after Dr. Ralph E. Otto '63 and his wife, Diane. The naming of Otto Science Hall will be celebrated at a public ceremony Thursday, Oct. 16, 4 p.m., in the Science Center Courtyard. Otto, a cardiothoracic surgeon, was a regent from 1992 until his death in 2008. The Ottos established an endowed scholarship and professorship named after Otto's chemistry professor, Dr. A.W. Swensen. The center's Becker Science Hall comprises the south and west wings and is named after the late Dr. Conrad H. Becker, the college's 12th president. 


Inspiring speakers 
— A husband and wife both afflicted with multiple sclerosis will share their story Thursday, Oct. 30, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in Science Center 102. Dan '95 and Jennifer Digmann have battled the chronic illness for more than 30 years combined. Their inspiring message, Create a Culture of Inclusion, will center on how they cope and rise above multiple sclerosis. RSVP by Thursday, Oct. 23 to tracy.keller@wartburg.edu or 352-8394. 


May Term award letters
— The Financial Aid Office will send out May Term award letters Monday, Oct. 20 for all students registered for a May Term 2015 class taking a trip. Contact the Financial Aid Office with any questions at finaid@wartburg.edu.
