NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
Refund checks — Do you have credit on your student account and need money for the holidays? Student account refund check requests need to be in before noon, Monday Dec. 8, and will be available for pick up after noon, Wednesday, Dec. 10. Contact the Business Office in Luther Hall 212 or at 352-8411 to request a refund check.

Ugly sweater dinner party — ETK and Dining Services are hosting an Eat, Drink, & Be Ugly Sweater Party Monday, Dec. 8, during regular dining hours in Mensa. Wear your ugliest Christmas sweater while enjoying a special dinner, dessert, and games.

De-Stress Fest — Need a break during finals? Vogel Library is hosting its second annual De-Stress Fest Dec. 8-12. Stations will be set up with Play-Doh, puzzles, board games, Legos, and more during regular library hours. Dog-petting sessions, hosted by ID315 in partnership with Retrieving Freedom, will be Dec. 8 and 9, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. 

Rep Wartburg in video — Help Wartburg and lighten the mood before finals by participating in an entertaining video shoot Tuesday, Dec. 9. The Marketing & Communication Office seeks at least 200 students, faculty, and staff to star in a promotional video. Pack The W's Hall of Champions at 11 a.m. sharp. Expect the shoot to take up to an hour. No specific attire is needed; just don't wear a Luther shirt! Email markcomm@wartburg.edu with questions.


Stress-Free Zone — Stress-relieving activities will be offered Wednesday, Dec. 10, 4-8 p.m., in the McCoy Rooms of Saemann Student Center as a study break during finals week. Yoga, coloring, and ornament decorating are planned. Sign up at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in Saemann Student Center, for a massage during the Dec. 10 event. For more information, contact Counseling Services at 352-8596 or counseling@wartburg.edu.

Pet therapy for finals
 — Take a break from the stress of finals with pet therapy. Join SAFE and the Cedar Bend Humane Society, Thursday, Dec. 11, 4–8 p.m., in Chapel Commons. For more information, contact Counseling Services at 352-8596 or counseling@wartburg.edu.


Yoga and meditation 
— The Asian Student Association invites students to join a yoga and meditation session Sunday, Dec. 7, 2 p.m., Grossmann classroom 131. Learn the art of deep breathing for relaxation and discover how to lessen anxiety while improving focus and concentration. Meditation will be led by a licensed reflexologist.


In concert 
— Members of the Symphonic Band and Flute Choir will give a free concert tonight, Dec. 4, 7 p.m., in Bachman Fine Arts Center Band Hall. The program includes Adventum by Jared Barnes ’07, Northwood-Kensett band director.


Holiday symphony concert
 — The Wartburg Community Symphony's holiday concert is Tuesday, Dec. 9, 7 p.m., in Neumann Auditorium. Enjoy the symphony’s rendition of music from Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev with life-sized puppets from Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre acting out the story. The symphony also will be joined by 62 members of the Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School Orchestra. The show will include two holiday carols, and a reception will follow the performance. Wartburg students with ID will be admitted for free. 


Christmas with Wartburg
 — Christmas with Wartburg, the college's annual musical celebration, is this week. Performances will be Friday, 7:30 p.m., Lutheran Church of Hope, West Des Moines; Saturday, 3 and 7:30 p.m., Neumann Auditorium; and Sunday, 3 p.m., Neumann Auditorium. Limited tickets remain for the evening performances and can be purchased online or at the Ticket Office in Saemann Student Center 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. tomorrow.


Phil and Lit 
— Two students will present research at the next meeting of the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society, Friday, Dec. 5, 4 p.m., in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. Alexander Jenson ’15 will present Quantifying the Heating Needed to Induce Hardness Increase in Laser-Water et Treated Cubic Boron Nitride. Christian Terry ’16 will present I Can't Go On, I'll Go On: Mediating Traumatic Stress in Political Prisoners.


Lunch 'n' Learn
 — Waverly Health Center will offer a Lunch 'n’ Learn event Wednesday, Dec. 17, noon-1 p.m., in The W's Wet Classroom. Brian Pins, community health specialist, will present Healthy Holiday Tips, covering practical tips for the holidays, such as stress management, scheduling, and meal preparation. Those attending the free event are invited to bring a lunch. Call The W at 352-8249 for more information.

Talent show tryouts — Calling all singer-songwriters, bands, comedians, and other performers: The Battle of the Unsigned Artists will be Saturday, Jan. 24. An audition Saturday, Jan. 17, can be secured by applying. Forms can be found online or outside The Hub in Saemann Student Center and turned in to the Entertainment ToKnight office in The Hub.


Help lead ETK 
— Applications for Entertainment ToKnight executive positions are being accepted. Forms can be found online or outside The Hub in Saemann Student Center and turned in to the ETK office in The Hub.


Festival of Trees 
— The free Wartburg Community Festival of Trees exhibit runs through Wednesday, Dec. 17, in the Classroom Technology Center hallway. It features trees decorated by several campus departments and community businesses and organizations. Four volumes of The Saint John's Bible — the inspiration for this year's Christmas with Wartburg theme — are part of the display. They will be opened for viewing for one hour before and after each of Saturday's Christmas with Wartburg performances. Calling all science fans
— This year's Physics and Chemistry Demonstration Show will be Saturday, Feb. 21, in McCaskey Lyceum of Saemann Student Center. Student volunteers are needed to play a variety of roles: performing and explaining demonstrations, interacting with kids at hands-on activity stations, and performing behind-the-scenes tasks like production and setup. An informational meeting will be Monday, Dec. 8, 1 p.m., in Science Center 102. Email chemistryclub@wartburg.edu for more information. This student-led event is co-hosted by the Wartburg Chemistry Club, the Society of Physics Students, and the Wartburg Engineering Science Club. It will air on Knight Vision. 


Gluten-free dessert 
— Dining Services is selling gluten-free cheesecakes for the holidays. Choose from white chocolate raspberry swirl and praline pumpkin. Order online for pickup at your convenience. With questions, call Dining Services at 352-8303. 


Recipes from Home 
— Students, faculty, and staff are invited to share their favorite recipes to be considered for the 2015-16 Mensa menu through the annual Recipes from Home contest. Recipes for entrees, salads, ethnic dishes, vegan entrees or sides, and desserts can be dropped in the Mensa suggestion box or emailed to Jill Everding, Dining Services management systems coordinator, at jill.everding@wartburg.edu, by Friday, Jan. 16. Please include your name and contact information for verification. Recipes chosen will be taste-tested in Mensa. The student body will vote for its favorites, which will then be considered for next year’s Mensa menu. 


Winter bike storage 
— Campus Security offers bicycle storage during the winter. There is no charge, but your bike must be registered with the college. Also, you must agree to leave it in storage until a point in March when it is apparent that severe winter weather has ended. Bicycles will be accepted at the Campus Security office until Friday, Dec. 12. With questions, contact Campus Security at campus.security@wartburg.edu or 352-8372. 


Dance Team tryouts
 — Tryouts for the Dance Team's winter squad will be Tuesday, Dec. 9, 5-8 p.m., in the McCaskey Lyceum of Saemann Student Center. The team will perform routines in a variety of styles at basketball halftimes during Winter Term. Those auditioning will perform 20-30 seconds of their own choreography (pom or jazz preferred), a toe touch, double/triple pirouettes, and two additional skills. Email coach Kendra Oswald at kendra.oswald@wartburg.edu to sign up for a time and receive more information. Registration is required.
