Faculty Development Fund distribution

The following faculty received Faculty Development Funds for Travel (Scholarship) in Winter/May 2018:

Dr. Mariah Birgen, to present Learning the History of Mathematics and Physics in the British Isles: A Travel Course at the Mathematical Association of America in San Diego.

Dr. Sonja Lynch, to present Victor LaValle’s Destroyer: A Creature for Today at the International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts in Orlando, Fla.

Dr. Zak Montgomery, to present Virtual intercambio between College Spanish Composition Courses: Facilitating Intercultural Communication and Promoting Cultural Humility at the 100th American Association of Teachers of Spanish & Portuguese (AATSP) in Salamanca, Spain.

Dr. Shaheen Munir, to present Cognitive Test Anxiety: Relationship to Parental Bonding and Perfectionism at the Association of Psychological Science in San Francisco.

Dr. Stephanie TeKippe, to present Use eLearning to Collect Assessment and Data for Program Review and Accreditation at Jenzabar’s Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tenn.

Dr. Kunihiko Terasawa, to present Nishida Kitaro and the Kyoto School’s Mindfulness and Political Activism at the ASIANetwork Conference in Philadelphia.

Dr. Jacob Tews, to present Beyond the Madrigals: Lesser-known Contemporary Repertoire for Violin and Viola, Part II at the American Viola Society National Conference in Los Angeles, and Choral/Orchestral Collaboration Ideas for Young Musicians at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Midwinter Clinic in Minneapolis.


The following faculty received Faculty Development Funds for Travel (Service & Development) in Winter/May 2018:

Dr. Erika Lindgren, to attend the Phi Alpha Theta (History Honors Society) Conference at the Missouri Valley History Conference in Omaha.

Prof. Pamela Ohrt, to attend the National College Media Association Spring Convention in New York City.

Dr. José Reyes-Tomassini, to present Comparison of Aqui-S 20E and MS-222 as anesthetics in Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) at the Aquaculture America 2018/World Aquaculture Society Meeting in Las Vegas.


The following faculty received Faculty Development Funds for Scholarship for summer 2018:

Dr. Shawn Ellerbroek, for research titled Characterization of XPLN phosphorylation and binding to Post-Synaptic Density Proteins.

Dr. Zak Montgomery and Dr. Daniel Sundblad, for research titled Intercultural Competence and Short-term Study Abroad.

Dr. Maryam Rod Szabo, for research titled Faculty Technological, Pedagogical, Content Knowledge Development in Online Courses.

Dr. Jacob Tews, for composing a new concerto for violin and cello to be debuted at Southern Illinois-Carbondale.

Dr. Matthew Zart, for research titled Co(II) Metal Ion Complexes with Exogenous Ligands Bound in the H-Bonding Pocket.

Dr. Stephanie TeKippe, for Innovative Technology and Curriculum Development Incorporating a Team Approach for the Online ESL Program for Quality, Accreditation, and Retention

Dr. Stephanie Toering Peters (on behalf of the Biology Department) for Biology Department Curriculum Innovation
