Kleinfeld Lecture in German History, Culture, and Politics |
The public is invited to the annual Kleinfeld Lecture at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in McCaskey Lyceum. The Rev. Miriam Gross, pastor of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Paul’s in New York City, will speak on A Means of Hope and Grace: Living Lutheran Identity in the Public Square.

S.A.F.E. candlelight dinner |
The sign-up for the candlelight dinner hosted by S.A.F.E. (Suicide Awareness For Everyone) will take place Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 8-9, 5:15-7 p.m., in Mensa. S.A.F.E. members will discuss their organization while students, faculty, and staff mingle over dinner Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 6:30 p.m., in the Heritage Ballroom in Saemann Student Center. The cost for students with a board plan is $2. This may be paid with points or cash at sign-up. Off-board students may also attend, and their cost will be $10 at sign-up. Special dietary considerations will be taken into account.

Math CaSin(θ) night |
Members of the Perspectives in Mathematics class will sponsor a Math CaSin(θ) on Friday, Nov. 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., on the second floor of the Science Center. Come play a variety of math-related casino games and enjoy refreshments. The event also counts for a math culture point if you need one. |

The Education Department will hold a meeting Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 11:30 a.m., in WBC 214 for students scheduled to student-teach during the 2018-19 academic year. Application and resume instructions will be explained during the meeting; applications are due Dec. 8.

The Vagina Monologues auditions |
The Wartburg V-day Campaign invites all women to audition for The Vagina Monologues. Auditions will be Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 13-14, beginning at 7 p.m., in the McCoy rooms. Click here to sign up. The Vagina Monologues seeks to get women’s stories heard and to help stop violence against women right here in our Wartburg community, in Waverly, and beyond. Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar |
The next Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar will be Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 11:30 a.m., in SC134. Two Wartburg students will present on their summer experiences at John Deere and NASA. Madalyn McKelvey ’18, an engineering science and mathematics double major, will present My Experience as an Intern at John Deere, and Amy Isvik ’18, a mathematics and computer science double major, will present Expanding the NASA PVS Library. All are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.

Wartburg’s V-Day Campaign and SMART are sponsoring an open mic poetry reading event Thursday, Nov. 9, 6:30-8 p.m., in the Chapel Commons. Signup will be at the event. Board of Regents commendation motion |
The Board of Regents at its recent meeting approved a motion recognizing the campus community for its efforts in reaccreditation:
COMMENDATION MOTION: That the Board of Regents hereby commends and celebrates the splendid work of faculty, staff, students, alumni, the President’s Cabinet, and President Colson in presenting the College’s mission and achievement to the Higher Learning Commission, thereby earning the Commission’s reaffirmation of accreditation. The Board of Regents is proud of this important accomplishment and stands with all of you in the ongoing work of assuring excellence in the delivery of Wartburg’s distinctive plan of education.

Decorate a tree for Festival of Trees |
The annual Wartburg-Waverly Festival of Trees will brighten the halls of Wartburg’s Classroom Technology Center Nov. 29-Dec. 14. If your office, academic department, or group/organization would like to decorate a Christmas tree to display, please sign up by Monday, Nov. 20. For more information and/or to sign up, go to www.wartburg.edu/trees. Contact Joni McDonough with questions. A partnership between the college and Waverly Chamber of Commerce, the festival is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and attracts more than 5,000 guests each year. New this year will be a People’s Choice Award. Visitors will have the chance to vote for their favorite tree, and the winner will receive a prize.
