May Term worship – Faculty, staff and students are invited to Sanctuary, a holy space in the midst of your busy life where you can recharge and renew. Expect a relaxed time of Bible study, fellowship, music, prayers, and communion. This will be the only worship opportunity on campus during May Term and will take place on Sunday evenings (May 1, 8, and 15) at 8 p.m. in Chapel Commons (basement). Come at 7:45 for snacks and conversation; Sanctuary begins at 8 and ends at 9.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
Retirement open house — An open house to honor retirees from the Maintenance Department will be Thursday, April 28, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel Commons. Retirees are Matt Campbell, Pat Condon, Pam Hartzell, Mike Testroet, Carla Wubbena, Ed Wubbena, and John Wuertz. There will be a brief program at 9:30 to recognize their tenure at Wartburg.
WartburgAlert Test on Thursday — The emergency notification system for Wartburg College, WartburgAlert, will be tested around noon Thursday, April 28. WartburgAlert is tested, at minimum, once per term. You have to register to be notified; there is no charge, and you may register up to two numbers for text notification and four numbers for voice phones. You are strongly encouraged to register a SMS number to receive a text, which is the quickest and most reliable means of notification. To register, go to the Wartburg College home page, log into InfoCenter, select “Offices,” then in the drop-down select “Parking & Safety” and then “WartburgAlert.” If you have problems registering, come to the security office Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. To verify if you are registered before Thursday, send an email to campus.security@wartburg.edu, and we will confirm your registration.
Fun in the Sun — Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) will host a Fun in the Sun event Sunday, May 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. on the campus lawn (this is in place of the sand volleyball previously scheduled for May 1). This event will include messy Twister, tie-dye shirts, root beer floats, water guns, water balloon fights, and more. KWAR will be playing throughout the event. All are welcome. There will be a free-will donation box, with all the proceeds going to St. Jude’s Research Hospital. If you plan to play messy Twister, please wear or bring a shirt that you are comfortable getting paint on.
Seeking igKnight mentors for 2016-17 – The Pathways Center is hiring igKnight mentors for the 2016-17 academic year. Students interested in making a difference in the lives of their peers are encouraged to apply. The igKnight Mentoring Program focuses on mentoring students, no matter where they are in their college experience. Mentors help students pursue their academic, personal, and professional goals. Applications are due April 29. Students are encouraged to visit the igKnight website or contact TJ Warren for more information on the program and how to apply.
Bremwood mentors wanted — Do you like playing basketball, baking, being outside or playing games? Become a mentor to a teen at Bremwood Residential Treatment Center! Mentoring is all about having fun and being a friend to a kid who doesn’t have much of a support system. All you need to give is one hour a week; it’s a great volunteer experience, an awesome resume builder, and an invaluable way to make a positive impact in someone’s life. Interested? SAFE 5K run — Join SAFE (Suicide Awareness for Everyone) in spreading awareness about mental health. SAFE will hold the Stampede the Stigma 5K color run/walk on Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m. The route will begin and end on Warburg's campus. New director of undergraduate research — After many years of distinguished service by Dr. Roy Ventullo, Dr. Shawn Ellerbroek will assume duties as the director of undergraduate research beginning in the fall of 2016. Congratulations to Dr. Ellerbroek on this new responsibility and many thanks to Dr. Ventullo for his stewardship of the program.
Business plan competition — Wartburg students Krystal Graves, Andre Greene, Ashlee McGrown, Lindokuhle Simelane, and Cassie Ward competed as finalists in the Neeley Entrepreneurship Center Values and Ventures Business Plan Competition at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 8-9. The team developed its business plan, “Best Trucking Burritos,” under the guidance of Dr. Allan Bernard, assistant professor of business administration, and was sponsored by Wartburg alumnus Michael Murphy '89.

Former NFL player to speak on campus — Aaron Kampman, former NFL football player and Aplington-Parkersburg alumnus, will speak Monday, April 25, at 8 p.m. in Levick Arena. The event, hosted by the Wartburg FCA, is free and open to public.
Learn mindfulness skills — Koru will be offered during May Term. This course, consisting of four classes, is designed to help college students learn mindfulness through the practice of meditation and other skills that facilitate relaxation and increased focus. The free classes (participants will need to purchase one book) will be held Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Click here for information about Koru. Glass recycling — The Sustainability Office reminds everyone that glass items can only go into the GLASS-ONLY recycling containers. Please do NOT put glass items in the single-stream recycling containers.
Burgapalooza — Student Senate will host Burgapalooza on Friday, April 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. behind the Manors. There will be a sand volleyball tournament, yard games, and a cookout. All students are welcome. Contact senate@wartburg.edu for more information.
Service trip information — Are you interested in leading or going on a service trip? Do you want to hear about past experiences or what a service trip entails? Come to the sand volleyball courts behind the Manors on Wednesday, April 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. to enjoy a cookout and learn more about service trips. Rain date will be Thursday, April 28. Naming contest results — Congratulations to Nathan Lange for submitting the winning name for the planned community patio space at Clinton Hall. Ritterplatz beat out Squirrel Square (Alec Ostrander) and The Barbican (Karl Jaeschke) during voting on UKnight Day. Thanks to everyone who turned in great suggestions and their piggy banks.
