If your office is closing for break, please remember to:

1. Pull the plug on:
  • Power strips
  • TVs, microwaves, coffee makers
  • Digital clocks, task lighting, desk lamps
  • Chargers
  • Small dorm-sized fridges, after you remove any food (good time to clean out) and place a towel in the bottom to catch any melting frost
  • Other appliances (when appliances are plugged in, they still use energy even if they are off)

2. Turn off all lights and anything you can’t unplug.

3. Close blinds to retain heat, but you can open south-facing curtains or blinds to allow sunlight to naturally heat your area.

4. Turn down the heat if there are individual controls available in your area.

5. Turn off your computer, monitor, or speakers, not just in sleep mode, but leave them plugged in. Do not power down network printers or copiers.

6. Shut fume hood sashes in labs.

Additionally, report any maintenance problems such as leaky faucets, windows that won't close or extreme room temperatures to the maintenance department at 352-8318.
