$1 million gift for Clinton Hall — Wartburg College has received a $1 million challenge grant to jumpstart the final push for the planned renovation of Clinton Hall. Ray ’65 and Judy Slade ’65 McCaskey established the McCaskey Challenge as part of the college’s comprehensive $75 million Transforming Tomorrow campaign. All gifts and pledges made to the Clinton project through May 31 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $1 million. Click here for more information.
Saint Elizabeth Week award recipients — Seven Wartburg College students, faculty, and staff were honored for their commitment to service as part of the annual Saint Elizabeth Week celebration. Angela Zook ’16, Kaitlyn Behnken ’16, and Michaela McIlravy ’16 received the Saint Elizabeth Award for Service, which recognizes students who exemplify a commitment to service and desire to live a life that embodies Wartburg’s mission. Kathy Traetow, study abroad office coordinator; Gloria Campbell, associate professor of business administration/economics; and Nelson and Bonita Bock, co-directors of Wartburg West, received the Pastor Larry Trachte Award for Service, given to faculty or staff who embody his enthusiasm, support, dedication and overall commitment to Wartburg’s mission of service. Notify Wartburg Store about course adoptions — Faculty, please be sure that you’ve notified The Wartburg Store regarding your Winter Term course adoptions. More than 28 percent of faculty have not yet responded to what they need for the upcoming term. The HEOA federal guidelines require course adoptions to be on the website two months prior to start of term. Submit your course requests as soon as possible via the online collection tool or to Janet Huebner atjanet.huebner@wartburg.edu or extension 8439.
Students featured in art exhibition — Emily Anderson ’16, Peri Benna ’17, Benjamin Bogard ’16, Hannah Crumpton ’16, Megan Howe ’16, and Wanqi Sun will be featured in the Waterloo Center for the Arts' Cedar Valley Biennial Student Art Exhibition opening Dec. 1. The exhibition, in the Law-Reddington Gallery, runs through Feb. 12. A reception will be Wednesday, Dec. 9, 5:30 p.m., with an award ceremony and remarks from Brittany Deal, this year's juror and director of Wartburg's Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Donate to the Holiday Shoppe — Pick an ornament from the Christmas tree in the chapel narthex, Den, Mensa, or The W and buy a present for a child of that age. There are gift ideas on the back of each tag. This annual community event, sponsored by the social work department, provides less-fortunate families and children with holiday gifts they can't afford. Donations can be dropped off at the social work office in Old Main or at the various Christmas trees around campus.
Attention all low brass enthusiasts — You are invited to join the Jingle Jangle Brass Choir, under the direction of Dr. Craig Hancock, director of bands. The JJBC was formed in 2014 to have fun making live music while raising money for charities during the holiday season. All ages and ability levels are welcome for these ad hoc performances. The group's first appearance will be at the Christmas on Main celebration Thursday, Dec. 10, 6-8 p.m. For more information, contact craig.hancock@wartburg.edu.
Mail Center holiday information — Please plan your shipping so you receive items prior to Friday, Dec. 18, and after Friday, Jan. 1. College offices, including the Mail Center, will be closed from Monday, Dec. 21, to Friday, Dec. 25, and on Friday, Jan. 1. The Mail Center will not receive packages from UPS, FEDEX, DHL, Staples, or any other delivery service. The Mail Center will reopen with regular hours Monday, Dec. 28, to Thursday, Dec. 31. Due to short staff, please do not have large shipments come through the Mail Center until after Friday, Jan. 1.
Recycling update — Toilet paper is made from items recycled through single-stream collection. One item that is not accepted in our single-stream bins is glass, because who wants glass in their toilet paper? Glass should be placed in the tan “glass only" recycling bin next to the blue recycling bins outside residence halls, or in the small blue containers in Löhe or Grossmann recycling rooms.
Service Trip advisers needed — Service Trips is looking for faculty and staff who are interested in being advisers for trips over Winter Break or Tour Week. The adviser assists in the planning process, attends pre-trip meetings with the leaders and other participants, and is required to go on the trip. Nominate students for symposium — Nominations for the National Character & Leadership Symposium at the United States Air Force Academy are due Monday, Nov. 30. The opportunity for Wartburg students to participate in this highly selective symposium is provided by Mark and Peggy Baldwin. The Institute for Leadership Education at Wartburg will select four second- or third-year students to attend the conference Feb. 24-26 in Colorado. These students will ideally come from diverse academic backgrounds and have a demonstrated commitment to leadership and service. Click here to nominate a student and learn more about the program.
Making It Matter Food Drive — Students, faculty, and staff who bring a nonperishable item to The Wartburg Store through Nov. 24 will receive a coupon for 20 percent off one apparel or gift item. Items collected will be donated to the Vineyard Community Church food bank and Cedar Valley Friends of the Family. Details about a faculty competition will be forthcoming. Propose an alumni tour — The Alumni/Parent Relations Office is seeking proposals for future alumni tours. If you are interested in leading a tour (summer of 2018 and beyond), please complete the Alumni Travel Program Request for Proposals and return to the Alumni/Parent Relations Office by Feb. 1, 2016. Dining Services bakery items — Dining Services is selling bakery items to take with you over Thanksgiving Break. You can order items through your Webfood account through Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2 p.m. There are gluten-free options as well. If you have questions, contact the Dining Office at 352-8303.
Recipes from Home — Students, faculty, and staff are asked to share their favorite recipes from home to be considered for the 2015-16 Mensa menu! Please email your recipes for entrees, salads, ethnic dishes, vegan entrees or sides, and desserts to shelly.geweke@wartburg.edu or drop them in the Mensa suggestion box by Friday, Jan. 25. Don’t forget to include your name and contact information for verification. Recipes must be something that you have had before and really enjoyed. The recipes that are chosen will be taste-tested in Mensa, and the student body will vote for their favorites.
Sign up for swim meet — The W is hosting a free community swim meet Saturday, Dec. 12. Warm-ups will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the meet starting at 8. (There will be no lap swim this day.) All events—including individual and relays in men's, women's and co-ed categories—are open to the community. If you are interested in a relay race, you must form your own team. Budget session updates — Thank you to those who attended any of the three informational budget sessions Oct. 26-28. As promised, the responses to questions raised during those meetings that required more research are now available online.
Enrollment report — Enrollment Management has released the College Student Inventory Summary for 2015-16. The document is available here. The CSI identifies the leading non-cognitive indicators of students' success, including their academic motivations, levels of risk in a range of areas, and receptivity to assistance. Parent ambassadors provide new help — Several current Wartburg parents have stepped up to serve on a new parent ambassador group that provides additional support and insight to families considering the college. Many prospective parents are interested in learning about Wartburg from a parent perspective. Our newest ambassadors do that by writing letters, attending recruiting events, serving on panels, and representing Wartburg in their daily lives. Our parent ambassadors are:

Tony Lutz, media services support specialist, won first place in the "Amateur Photography" division for his photograph Golf Course Fog in the 35th annual Dr. E.H. Stumme Art & Photography Show at the Denver (IA) Public Library. Both of his entries were purchased by the library for patron check out.
