The Juice changes delivery — As of Monday, Oct. 19, The Juice will be sent only on Mondays. Please keep this change in mind when submitting announcements. Sen. Rand Paul to visit — Republican presidential hopeful Rand Paul will visit campus Tuesday, Oct. 13. The 5 p.m. event in McCaskey Lyceum is part of the Kentucky senator’s The Iowa 10,000 College Tour and is sponsored by the Wartburg College Republicans. 

Fight the flu — Flu shots are available Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 13-14, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., in the McCoy rooms of Saemann Student Center. The shots are free for employees and spouses on the Wartburg health insurance plan. Those who are not covered by Wartburg insurance can pay out of pocket or check with their insurance carrier. Please contact Amy Wilson, administrative assistant in Human Resources & Payroll, atamy.wilson@wartburg.edu to indicate which day you plan to attend.

Candidate forum — Faculty are invited to meet with candidates for the college-sponsored programs administrator position. Application materials for each candidate are available from the Dean's Office upon request.

Phil and Lit — Dr. Kunihiko Terasawa, assistant professor of world religions, will presentReligion, Nationalism, and WWII in the Asian context; the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII for the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society Friday, Oct. 16, 4 p.m., in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. 

Online humanities courses available — Wartburg is part of a consortium of colleges offering approximately 40 online courses at no charge. Our students have the opportunity to enroll in online upper-level humanities courses in Winter Term 2016. The catalog of courses is available here. Advisees interested in enrolling in these courses should contact Sheree Covert, registrar, at sheree.covert@wartburg.edu or in Luther Hall 216. Academic advisers have received guidelines to assist students in determining eligibility.

Winter Term course requests — Faculty, it’s time to submit course requests for the 2016 Winter Term. Watch for an email Thursday, Oct. 15, with a link to The Wartburg Store website online collection tool to complete the submission. Candlelight dinner — The new Sociology/Criminology Club will hold a candlelight dinner Wednesday, Oct. 21, 6:30 p.m., in the Heritage Room of Saemann Student Center. Club leaders will discuss goals and plans for the year. Sign up Oct. 14-15 in Mensa. The cost in $10, and dietary considerations will be made. Remembering Vickey — Faculty and staff are invited to a potluck in memory of Vickey Klunder Thursday, Oct. 15, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in Chapel Commons. Share a dish and a favorite memory as we remember the Wartburg employee of 38 years who passed away Sept. 28. Drinks and tableware will be provided.

Service partnership grants available — Iowa Campus Compact announces requests for proposals for the 2015 MLK Day of Service Community Partnership Project. The mini-grant project is focused on supporting service projects that work toward alleviating hunger and supporting veterans. All national and state Campus Compact members are eligible to apply for mini-grants ranging from $500 to $2,000 to support MLK Day of Service projects in these areas. Applications are due by midnight Friday, Oct. 30. Those considering applying should coordinate Wartburg's efforts by contacting Kristin Teig Torres, assistant director for the Center of Community Engagement, at kristin.teigtorres@wartburg.edu or 352-8709.

German Institute applications call — The executive committee of the German Institute is pleased to announce the 2016 call for applications to support activities/endeavors related to German and/or Germany. For 2016, $2,500 is available. Because these funds are limited, an application is required and will be awarded on a competitive basis. Applications for the full amount of available funds most likely will not be supported in full. Applications are due Nov. 6. Awards will be announced no later than Dec. 1. Previously, the institute has funded enhancements to May Term trips to Germany, a forthcoming film festival, and subsidized student travel to Germany for study abroad. Full application details are available here.

AAUW hosts pay inequity presentation — The Waverly branch of American Association of University Women will host Pay Inequity - It's a Fact: The Realities Behind Unequal Pay and Strategies for Achieving Equality Thursday, Oct. 15, 6-7:30 p.m., in Whitehouse Business Center 116. Kristen Corey, program planner for the Iowa Department of Human Rights' Office on the Status of Women, will will give an overview of the large body of research showing that pay inequity is a reality for women nationwide and in Iowa and will discuss some of the strategies to advocate for change. For more information, contact Kim Folkers, associate professor of marketing, at kimberly.folkers@wartburg.edu or 352-8424.

Course update for academic advisers — An IS 201 section on Doctor Who was added after Winter Term registration and is still looking to boost enrollment.  IS 201-07, Diversity and the Doctor, uses the television series Doctor Who to examine issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality in Britain and the United States. It is offered Winter Term Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:45 a.m. Students are welcome to enroll in the class as an elective or for its writing intensive designation. Picture request for Outfly — Looking to get involved with Outfly? Student Senate is requesting pictures of faculty. Students will edit these the images onto designs of superheroes and display them in the Student Center on Outfly. Pictures, which should be recent and of good quality, can be sent to Molly Zmudka at molly.zmudka@wartburg.edu or senate@wartburg.edu.
