Sand volleyball, softball intramural signups open

Register now for sand volleyball and slow-pitch softball intramurals during May Term. Sand volleyball will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 9 p.m., and softball will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. Registration ends April 26.

Volunteers needed for music auditions

The Department of Music will host student auditions for the Iowa chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing on April 26-27, which will bring 200 singers and teachers to campus. If you will be on campus during Tour Week, please consider volunteering as a room monitor, timekeeper, scorer, or other position. If interested, please email Dr. Kylie Gougler.

Pre-Vet Club transitioning into Pre-Health Club.

Pre-Vet Club changing to Pre-Health Club 

The Wartburg Pre-Veterinary Club will transition into a Pre-Health Club for the next academic year. The club will be a great opportunity to learn about health careers, graduate school, and prerequisites. Watch for more information in the future.

Dining locations across campus will operate the following hours during Tour Week:

Mensa: 10:15 – 1:15 p.m. (last meal)
Den: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Konditorei: 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Zesty Orange: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Saturday, April 20

Zesty Orange: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Sunday, April 21

Zesty Orange: noon to 5 p.m.

Monday, April 22, to Friday, April 26

Den: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Konditorei: 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

All locations will resume regular hours Monday, April 29.

Deadline nears for charges to student accounts

Charges to student tuition accounts for the 2023-24 academic year must be received by the Business Office no later than Friday, May 3. It is important to get any outstanding charges reflected as soon as possible, especially for graduates, as diplomas and transcripts will not be released until the student account is paid in full. Exceptions will be made for things like parking fees/fines and dorm checkout charges that are issued after the deadline. If you have any questions, please call the Business Office at 352-8411.

Student employment trivia answer revealed

Thank you to everyone that celebrated Student Employment Appreciation Week! The winner of the contest to guess how many students work on campus held during Friday’s Superheroes Unite event in the Mensa were Vanessa Nehmzow, guessing 753, and Ella Hayden, guessing 750. As of Friday morning, we have 771 students employed on campus via the student employment program.

2024 Summer Student Research Fellowship

Apply for up to $3,500 to cover supplies/equipment, travel costs, or a stipend while doing research this summer. Your research cannot count for credit, it must be supported by a faculty member, and it should be of high enough quality to be considered for publication or presentation.

Deadline: On a rolling basis beginning Monday, April 29

Gilman International Scholarships for Pell Grant Recipients 

Get help with the cost of an international May Term travel course or a semester abroad. Award amounts can be up to $5,000!

Incomplete grade forms due April 23

Please remind your students that an incomplete grade is not valid unless it is supported by a Request for Incomplete Grade form. Submission is due before 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 23. The student should initiate and complete the form to confirm they have been in communication with you. An incomplete grade without a form will be changed to an F. Incomplete grades should only be issued for students who are passing the course when final grades are due. With permission from the Registrar, instructors can complete the form for a student whose circumstances prevent them from doing so. Please note that the form is encouraged, but not required, for internships, field experiences, and study abroad courses.

Wartburg Alert test set May 2

The Wartburg Alert system will be tested at noon Thursday, May 2. To adjust your Wartburg Alert settings, visit the Info Center.

Performance appraisals due July 31

Performance appraisals and self-appraisals are due by July 31. Examples of completed forms can be found on the Info Center. Once appraisals are complete and signed by all parties, please drop these forms off at the Human Resources Office. Email hr@wartburg.edu with questions.

The Wartburg Store has teamed up with BSN to offer exclusive athletics merchandise from April 4-15. Items purchased on the Wartburg Shop will be mailed to you after the site closes April 15.

Destress at the library during Finals Week

Destress activities will be available at Vogel Library from Sunday, April 14, through Thursday, April 18. The activities will change throughout the week, so stop by whenever you need a break — watch for the snack basket too! Activities will begin at 7:30 a.m. each day and run until midnight on Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday, while Monday and Tuesday’s activities will continue until 1 a.m. the following day.

Applications open for crowdfunded projects

Applications are now open for Fund the Fortress crowdfunding campaigns to be held in Fall Term. Campaigns that have strong engagement via social media and email are generally the most successful. Using the energy and enthusiasm of your department representatives or students can also have a strong impact. Please review the requirements and your responsibilities before applying; applications are due July 15. Vogel Library publishes April newsletter

The latest edition of The Searching Squirrel, Vogel Library’s newsletter, is now available. It includes information on the upcoming Citation Seminar event, destress activities in the library, a spotlight on the second-floor display for National Poetry Month, and finals week library hours.

Election results announced for May Term Senate

The following eight students have been elected to serve in May Term Senate: Alina Ahamed, Justis Bachman, Seth Butler, Zack Crawford, Jackson Haugen, Joziphene Luneckas-Broomhall, Lina Newland, and Nora Tweeten. Their terms will continue into the 2024-25 academic year. Congrats, and thanks to everyone who ran!

Achievements and accomplishments
Wartburg students Erin Buchheit Donati, Milagros Toribio Porras, and Sophia Broers have received notification of acceptance for graphic design work in the Art Directors Association of Iowa’s 66th annual Design Exhibition. Their work will be featured on April 19 at Curate, 322 E. Court Ave., Des Moines. The exhibition is an opportunity for Iowans to establish themselves as industry professionals, talented designers, and artists. Students were encouraged and assisted with submissions by Marwa Elkashif, assistant professor of art.

Jami Dare, food production manager, recently competed in the 10th annual Chefs Take a Stand fundraiser. The event featured food from chefs around the Cedar Valley to benefit Friends of the Family programs dedicated to helping those in crisis due to domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and homelessness. Dare won the competition with her Candied Bacon BLT on Toasted Rosemary Focaccia — the second year in a row she’s taken home the title.
