Graven Award presentation set for 11:30
|
Composer Craig Hella Johnson will receive the Graven Award at 11:30 a.m. today in Wartburg Chapel. The Graven Award recognizes laypeople who are guided by a strong sense of Christian calling to serve their communities. Johnson founded the Texas-based professional choir Conspirare and serves as the group's artistic director.
Johnson will discuss his well-known concert-length work "Considering Matthew Shepard" at a panel and Q&A at 8:15 p.m. in Orchestra Hall. The composition tells the story of Matthew Shepard, who was murdered because he was gay. This event is presented by Alliance.
