Classes shortened on Wednesday

There will be a condensed class schedule Wednesday, Nov. 22, as Thanksgiving break begins at 1:35 p.m.:

Period 1 (regularly starting at 7:45 a.m.) will be 7:45-8:35 a.m.
Period 2 (9 a.m.) will be 8:45-9:35 a.m.
Period 3 (10:45 a.m.) will be 9:45-10:35 a.m.
Period 4 (noon) will be 10:45-11:35 a.m.
Period 5 (1:15 p.m.) will be 11:45 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.
Period 6 (2:30 p.m.) will be 12:45-1:35 p.m.

Dining Services sets Thanksgiving break hours

The following changes will be made to service at dining facilities on campus due to the Thanksgiving holiday:

Wednesday, Nov. 22

Mensa: closes at 6:30 p.m.
Konditorei: will not reopen after 2 p.m.

 

Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24

All locations closed

Saturday, Nov. 25

Mensa, Konditorei, Den closed

 

Sunday, Nov. 26

Mensa reopens for dinner at 5 p.m.
Den, Konditorei closed

All locations resume regular hours Monday, Nov. 27.

Football to host second-round NCAA game

The Knights football team won its first-round game against Illinois College 49-14 on Saturday. They advance to the second round, again hosted at Walston-Hoover Stadium, against Whitworth University at noon Saturday, Dec. 2. Gates will open at 10:30 a.m.; tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors, students, and children. Watch the livestream here.

 

Volunteers are needed to work the game from 10:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. If interested, email heather.zajicek@wartburg.edu.

Ushers still needed for Christmas with Wartburg

Ushers are needed from our Wartburg College community for Christmas with Wartburg 2023. Please fill out the form and Sarah Bouska will be in contact with you regarding your preferences and availability. You will also receive a complimentary ticket to that performance!

Cross country competes at nationals

The men's cross country team placed fifth and the women's team placed 14th at Saturday's NCAA national championships. Christopher Collet, Shaelyn Hostager, and Aubrie Fisher were named All-American. Congrats on a great season!

Schedule your faculty/staff headshot

Julie Drewes, visual media manager, will take new or updated headshots of faculty and staff from 11a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 16. Email julie.drewes@wartburg.edu for a timeslot or take your chances and drop by without an appointment.

Directions to the photo studio in FAC 52:

Enter the main lobby of the Bachman Fine Arts Center via the east entrance (windows side, facing the Chapel).
On the right, take the staircase down to the basement.
Turn right, follow the long hallway about halfway and turn left (fire extinguisher on the wall for reference).
The studio is the first door on the right.

Fund the Fortress projects sought

Applications are open for Fund the Fortress projects for Winter and May Term 2024. Fund the Fortress is a series of public crowdfunding campaigns designed to accomplish smaller projects quickly. If you have a project that advances the Wartburg mission and vision but needs funding, please submit an application by Jan. 8. If you've applied previously but weren't chosen, you can use your prior application or submit a new one.

Send student charges to Business Office by 12/6

As Fall Term winds down, the Business Office would like to make sure all student tuition accounts are up to date. Any charges to a Student Tuition Account must be received by the Business Office no later than 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6. Outstanding charges must be reflected as soon as possible, especially for December graduates, as diplomas and transcripts will not be released until the student account is paid in full. Contact the Business Office at 319-352-8411 with questions.

Dining survey ends soon

Please complete the Dining Customer Satisfaction Survey prior to Thanksgiving break. The link was emailed Nov. 6 and 17. Your feedback will help determine what to keep doing at our dining locations and what changes need to be considered. If you have not received the survey or have questions, contact the Dining Services Office at ext. 8604.

Business Office issues newsletter

The latest Business Office quarterly newsletter has been published, which includes information on updated purchasing and expense management policies, the new college Amazon Business account, the 2024-25 budget planning process, and more.

On-campus positions available for student employees

There are open student employment positions across campus, including these two jobs:

Recital Assistants, Music Department
Duties include the setup/teardown of the Orchestra Hall, documenting music majors and minors in attendance, and managing audio/video equipment to record recitals.

Peer Success Coach, Student Life
Students would be responsible for providing excellent customer service as the first point of contact in the Student Life suite while helping fellow students navigate campus resources.

MathsJam is a monthly opportunity for like-minded self-confessed math enthusiasts to get together in a pub and share stuff they like. Puzzles, games, problems, or just anything they think is cool or interesting. Monthly MathsJam nights happen in over 70 locations around the world on the second-to-last Monday or Tuesday of each month. The Waverly MathsJam is sponsored by Wartburg's Kappa Mu Epsilon.

Projects for Peace Informational Meeting

Projects for Peace is a global program that encourages young adults to develop innovative, community-centered, and scalable responses to the world’s most pressing issues. Along the way, these student leaders increase their knowledge, improve skills, and establish identities as peacebuilders and changemakers. All Wartburg students are eligible to apply before the deadline of noon Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Christmas Fairy Tales: ‘Hansel and Gretel’

2 p.m.. Neumann Auditorium

Gingerbread houses will fill the stage as the Wartburg Community Symphony and the Wartburg Opera Workshop present “Hansel and Gretel,” a fairy-tale opera first performed at Christmastime in Weimar, Germany. This will mark the 130th anniversary of the work’s debut. The cast and orchestra will be joined by students from St. Paul's Lutheran Church & School. A preconcert talk will begin at 1 p.m.

Our condolences

Günter Schuchardt, Eisenach, Germany, died Nov. 13. He was head of the Wartburg Castle from 1995 to 2021, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. In October, he received the Thuringian Order of Merit. He was recognized with the Wartburg College Medal earlier this year, partially for his service on the Board of Regents from 2001-2021. Feedback sought on library services, spaces

Library staff and the Library Vision Team have worked together to create a short survey on library services and spaces. Please complete the anonymous survey to provide needed feedback for the library's future. If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah Voels.

Off-campus housing criteria, policy posted

Wartburg students are expected to reside on campus for all four years unless they meet criteria, apply, and are approved by Residential Life. The off-campus criteria and the off-campus housing policy are available online. If you do not meet one of the criteria, you are unlikely to be approved to live off campus. Applications for off-campus housing will open Monday, Jan. 22, and will be due by Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Invoice deadline shifts due to Thanksgiving holiday

The deadline for payable invoices, reimbursements, and vouchers will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, for payment on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Invoices, reimbursements, and vouchers will need to be submitted by 4 p.m. Nov. 22 to be paid the following Friday, Dec. 1. The regular accounts payable schedule resumes Friday, Dec. 1. Invoices submitted by 4 p.m. will be processed for payment the following Friday, Dec. 8.

Mail Center to close over Thanksgiving break

The Mail Center will close for Thanksgiving break at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22. There will be no mail or package delivery from Nov. 23-26. All accumulated mail and packages will be processed Monday, Nov. 27. Please address questions or concerns to mailroom@wartburg.edu.

On-campus positions available for student employees

Shuttle Driver, Student Life
An individual is needed to safely transport students in a college-owned 15-passenger van to and from Walmart two times per month.

Softball Bullpen Catcher, Athletic Department
Have experience playing softball or baseball? An individual is needed to catch for the softball team's pitchers during practice. Position starts in January.
