No mail today due to postal holiday
There will be no incoming or outgoing postal mail today due to the Presidents’ Day/Washington’s Birthday federal holiday. This will impact some Amazon deliveries received over the weekend. All weekend mail and packages will be picked up and processed on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Please contact mailroom@wartburg.edu with questions.

Dining Services sets hours for Winter Break

The dining centers on campus will have adjusted hours over Winter Break:

 

The Mensa

Last meal before break: 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24
First meal back from break: 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 5

 

The Den

Closing at 4 p.m. weekdays, including Friday, Feb. 24
Closed weekends
Closed Tuesday, Feb. 28

 

The Konditorei

Closing at 10:30 a.m. weekdays
Closed Tuesday, Feb. 28

 

Campus employees and remaining students, please note the Mensa, Den, and Konditorei are all closed Tuesday, Feb. 28. The Zesty Orange will be open as usual throughout break. All locations will resume regular hours Monday, March 6. Contact Dining Services with questions.

Vogel Library introduces music transposition resource
A trial subscription to Art Song Transposition has been made available to the Wartburg community. This trial runs until May 15.
On-campus positions available for student workers

There are open student worker positions across campus, including these two jobs:

 

Help Desk Consultation I, ITS
This position is responsible for first level technical support. Students will create help desk tickets and perform daily computer lab checks.

 

Circulation Desk Assistant I, Vogel Library
This position is responsible for welcoming visitors to the library and providing the first line of customer service at the circulation desk. Additionally, students will assist in maintaining the library collection and help make the library's spaces and services inclusive.

Service Trips hiring exec team members

Service Trips is hiring new executive team members for the 2023-24 school year. Positions include director of marketing, director of finances, director of student recruitment, and director of fundraising. These are paid positions that help continue the pillar of service here at Wartburg by sending out service trips during each academic break. Email servcetrips@wartburg.edu with any questions.

Deadline: Student Senate Funding Application

Student Senate is now accepting applications for next year's allocations, which are funds given to organizations. Please meet with your executive team to fill out the form in as much detail as possible. Malcolm Newell will contact applicants about hearings with the Budget Review Committee, which will be from March 27-31. No late applications will be accepted.

Self-Defense for Girls and Women

6 to 8 p.m., The W

This course will be taught in two sessions, with the second session on March 27. Attendees will learn simple, effective skills that may help you prevent or survive an assault. Participants also will learn awareness, assertiveness, safety strategies, and how to use simple techniques on vulnerable areas of the body. The class will be taught by Joe Edwards, and the cost is $30.

Achievements and accomplishments
IINspire sent two students, Hidaly Hernandez '23 and Robby Munoz '24, to the IINspire Annual Conference in Iowa City to present research posters. Additionally, students Bert Cortez '25, Izzy Gomes '25, Mia Lopez '26, Jennifer Miranda '23, and Zee Naba '26 attended the conference. Dr. LeAnn Faidley and Dr. Michaeleen Golay accompanied students. Sessions on inclusive mentoring, preparing for graduate programs, and alumni panels provided professional development and community building for students and faculty.

Summer 2023 classes can be viewed online by using Course Finder or Course Search. To register for summer classes, fill out a Summer Registration Form from the Registrar’s Office.

Library offers trial of Digital Concert Hall

The library now has an extended trial to Digital Concert Hall, a streaming platform from the Berliner Philharmoniker. This service provides the Wartburg community with access to high-definition recordings and livestreamed events from this world-renowned orchestra and their invited guests.

Books displayed for Black History Month
As you pass through the library's second floor, check out the Black History Month display. It is a celebration of Black queer identities, athletes, scientists, writers, poets, musicians, comedians, and more. There is a cart of material for browsing and checking out next to the display. Please direct questions and comments to melissa.curtis@wartburg.edu.
Mail Center: Add box numbers or department, please

Campus mail service is available to send mail and other items to students, faculty, and staff at no cost. Please include the first and last name of the recipient as well as the box number for students or department name for faculty and staff. Box numbers and departments are visible in the directory. Please do not include building and room numbers, as they are not part of the delivery address. Organizations, departments, or individuals wishing to send items to 20 or more students are reminded that delivery is expedited by putting items in box number order, ascending or descending. Please email mailroom@wartburg.edu with questions.

Senate leadership scholarships available
Wartburg Student Senate and the Leadership Education Service Committee are taking applications for two $500 scholarships. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be entering their third or fourth year at Wartburg, and be a leader in a campus organization. Interested students should submit an application as well as a recommendation from a faculty or staff member. Applications are due by 3 p.m. March 8. New process set for information requests

Requests for data, reports, and applications through the Information Request Form have moved to a new location to take advantage of the ITS Ticketing System under the Data Governance Group in the Service Catalog. Dr. Caryn D. Riswold, professor of religion and the Mike and Marge McCoy Family Distinguished Chair in Lutheran Heritage and Mission, presented "White Supremacy Culture and Lutheran Resources for the Work of Responding" for the Western Iowa Synod of the ELCA on Thursday, Feb. 2. This was a learning session for clergy and lay participants in the synod's upcoming Racial Justice Vision Trip.
