June 20, 2021

Mail Center update for July 4 holiday

The Mail Center will be closed Friday, July 2, and open Monday, July 5, though only FedEx will be delivering on Monday. There may be some limits on certain services in the week prior to the July Fourth holiday due to staffing. Please contact Kory Figura ahead of time if you have projects or special needs anticipated in that week.

Employee Assistance Program update

Wartburg’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through UnityPoint Health is changing slightly as follows:

Provide assessment, short-term counseling and/or referral to appropriate community service providers, being sensitive to the employee’s financial status and health care benefits. Benefits include 6 EAP sessions per employee, domestic partner, and dependents per calendar year, with a limit of 2 issues/person/year.

This is a change from 3 issues/person/year to 2 issues/person/year.
The total number of visits is being reduced from 18 to 12. The average usage is between 7-10 visits per year.
This change is effective immediately.

Should you have a need for any short-term counseling services, please reach out to UnityPoint Health EAP at 319-235-3550.

$2 million gift helps launch residence hall renovation project

A $2 million lead gift commitment from alumni Jack and Sarah Salzwedel has inspired the Wartburg College Board of Regents to authorize a $9 million fundraising campaign to renovate Centennial and Vollmer halls, two of the oldest student residences on campus. The total cost of the renovation, including an addition to the complex’s northeast side, is estimated to be $11 million. The college will also apply for $2 million in State of Iowa Historical Tax Credits.

The college hopes to raise the full $9 million, the largest fundraising goal for a single project in the college’s history, by June 1, 2022. Early leadership gifts have pushed the initial fundraising total to $5 million. If the college can reach the goal, construction could begin next spring and be complete by the time Fall Term classes begin in 2022. Other leadership gift commitments in support of the project include $1.5 million from the Franklin I. & Irene List Saemann Foundation and $1 million from Mike and Marge McCoy.
