Mail Center update during break

The Mail Center will be closed on Friday, April 2, and Monday, April 5, for the break. Mail and packages received by the Waverly Post Office on Friday and Saturday will be processed on Tuesday. Questions, please contact mailroom@wartburg.edu.

 

UKnight Day parking winner

Thank you, faculty and staff, for being a big part of a successful UKnight Day last Thursday! We had well over 100 faculty and staff donors, who were entered into a raffle for VIP parking near their preferred building for one year. The winner is Dr. LeAnn Faidley, associate professor of engineering science. Congrats, LeAnn!

Open Educational Resources (OER) available at Wartburg

Barb Schultz, Instructional Designer, and Amandajean Freking Nolte, Information Literacy Librarian, will offer two sessions to discuss the opportunities Open Educational Resources (OER) can bring to your course. The sessions will include time for questions about the Iowa Private Academic Libraries (IPAL) OER Project funding opportunity. Sessions are virtual via Zoom on Tuesday, April 6, at 11:30 a.m. or Wednesday, April 7, at 4 p.m. Please submit this form to claim your place and tell us about the project(s) you are considering. We will send you a Zoom link after you submit your form. Questions should be directed to Amandajean or Barb.

 

WCDM bake sale April 10

Calling all bakers! Wartburg College Dance Marathon is hosting a bake sale April 10 from 9:30-11 a.m. and we need your help! Please consider donating a pie, a pan of bars, a cake, or other baked goods to help us raise money for sick and injured kids at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Please email Nicole Upmeyer if you are able to donate. We will have donation drop-off times Friday, April 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. at E Lot near the Wartburg Student Center, and Saturday, April 10, from 8 to 9 a.m. at the FAC commons.

 

Juice publishing schedule for next week

Due to Easter Break, next week’s Juice will be sent out Tuesday, April 6. The deadline for items is 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 1. Contact Juice@wartburg.edu with your items or with questions.

 

Updated staff handbook 2021

Human Resources along with PAC members reviewed the Staff Handbook and made slight revisions to several sections. Cabinet reviewed those changes, and the updated handbook is now posted on the Infocenter.

Sections updated are:

Addition of the Wartburg Vision Statement
Breaks/Meals section
Work from Home section
Inclement Weather
Addition of Training section
Unpaid leave
Tuition sections
Updates to sections from Security

 

Update on budget reports and other accounts

Thank you everyone for your continued patience as the Business Office continues to play catch-up. Here are a few updates:

Department budgets and student wage budgets for 2020-21 have been loaded into the system and should be accessible via viewing your on-line budget reports.
We are continuing to work on getting caught up with the posting of 2020-21 transactions (revenues and expenses); we believe these transactions will be recorded through Dec. 31, 2020, by mid-April.
As previously communicated, additional information will be shared soon about gathering information for the 2021-22 fiscal year budget.

 

IS101, Fall 2021 Knight Reading book available

The Knight Reading (common read) for Fall 2021 is “Tell Me Who You Are” by Winona Guo and Priya Vulchi. All first-year students will read and engage with the text during IS 101. If you would like a copy of the book, please send your request as well as your account number to charge to IS 101 co-coordinator Lindsey Leonard.

 

2021 student summer research fellowships available

Application Deadline: Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting Monday, April 19, until depletion of funds.

Eligibility: One or more returning students from any department. Applications require authorship by the proposing student and an e-letter of support by the sponsoring faculty member. Fellowship award may include any combination of student stipend, funding for research supplies or equipment, or travel costs for research. Award limit is $3,500 per student. Research conducted in credit courses is not eligible. Contact Dr. Shawn Ellerbroek, director of undergraduate research, with any questions. SPIRITUAL LIFE & CAMPUS MINISTRY
Weekday Chapel services

All are welcome at Weekday Chapel services from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester. Chapel services are streamed live with Knight Vision, so you can watch from anywhere.

Service Trips Push Day coming March 30  

Mark your calendars and stay tuned to social media for Service Trips' Push Day on Tuesday, March 30. We will be raising money to support the four trips that will be going out to serve during Tour Week. Stop by The Hub from 6 to 9 p.m. that day to hang out with Sir Victor, get a deal on Service Trips T-shirts and other gear, and pick up your prize incentives from all the money you raise! All are welcome to join in the fun as we reminisce about past service trips and share why we love Wartburg College Service Trips.

 

Dining hours over Easter break and Tour Week

The orange bikes are back!

Thanks to recent warm temperatures and melting snow, bikes are now available for checkout at the Vogel Library. To borrow a bike, fill out a user agreement form if you haven’t yet this year. Checkout is for four hours, and bikes need to be returned by dark as they are not equipped to use at night. If a late snow happens, the bikes will be temporarily unavailable due to safety reasons. Stop by the library circulation desk on second floor if you have questions or to check one out and enjoy the fresh spring air with a bike ride!

 

Nominations for Baldwin Leadership Fellows

The Institute for Leadership Education at Wartburg seeks your assistance in the selection of first-year students to serve as Baldwin Leadership Fellows. Please click here for more information, and access the nomination form at this link. Nominations are due Wednesday, March 31. The Baldwin Fellows will ideally come from diverse academic backgrounds and be passionate about leadership and service in the context of the Wartburg mission. The students nominated will then be contacted regarding the nomination and asked to complete an application if they are interested in this highly selective opportunity. Please contact Theresa Moore, Assistant Director of the Institute for Leadership Education, if you have any questions.

 

Library spaces: access and inclusivity survey

Has the library ever felt non-welcoming to you according to your ability or identity through experiences with any of its physical aspects? Take this brief survey by April 9 to let us know.

 

V-Day ‘Hold My Hand’ photo display

V-Day will be displaying the "Hold My Hand" photoshoot March 22-31 on the Luther Hall second floor wall display. The purpose of these photos is to show that toxic masculinity does not hold power over a man's life and all of us will be there to hold a man's hand toward healing, empowerment and gender equality. Please stop by and interact with our photos by scanning the QR codes next to them.

 

Service Trips Rada Cutlery fundraiser

Are you interested in supporting students on their volunteer Service Trips? Beginning March 15, Wartburg College Service Trips is selling items from Rada Cutlery that will assist students in paying for their volunteer service. This fundraising sale will continue until Friday, April 16. Use this link to place your orders.

 

Reminder: Online class registration for 2021-22

To register for classes for the 2021-22 academic year, select the Academics tab from your My.Wartburg home page. Under Registration, use the Course Search or Add/Drop function to select the courses for registration. Documentation of the online registration process and other registration information can be accessed through the Registration Information link on the Registrar’s page.

Online registration is only available during the dates reserved for your current classification. Access to online registration closes for all students at midnight March 31.

Third-Fourth Year: 12 a.m. Monday, March 15, to noon Thursday, March 18; reopens Monday, March 22, to midnight March 31.
Second Year: 12 a.m. Monday, March 22, to midnight Wednesday, March 24: reopens Monday, March 29, to midnight March 31.
First Year: 12 a.m. Monday, March 29, to midnight March 31.

Dr. Caryn Riswold, professor of religion and the Mike and Marge McCoy Family Distinguished Chair in Lutheran Heritage and Mission, was one of the closing plenary speakers for the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education's 2021 Virtual UnConference on March 20. She presented with Rev. Kara Baylor, campus pastor at Carthage College, on "Multiple Identities and Multiple Callings: Intersectionality and Vocation(s)."
