Students took part in a number of events in celebration of Gayla Week.
Sponsored by GLBTA, Gayla Week included musical events, guest speakers, and informative meetings. These events were intended to educate and inform those interested in learning more about the issues and lives of GLBT persons.
The highlight of the week, the Fourth Annual Cabaret/Drag Show, took place on Sunday night. This event drew drag queens from across the entire state, who not only performed, but also helped organize the event. Reaction to the week was positive around campus, and it did not go unnoticed.
“I think that shows a lot of solidarity among the students here to say we are inclusive, and we do practice what we preach. It’s all about inclusion,” said Women’s Studies Program Director and co-host of the event Penni Pier.
Donations were accepted throughout the week, and were given to support the Wartburg Alliance.
