The Knights defeated Buena Vista on Wednesday, 7-0.
The Knights took the lead early as Katy Wendt pushed the ball into the box to find Taylor Vermie, who drilled a shot into the back of the net in the seventh minute. This was only the beginning of the Knight’s scoring frenzy against the Beavers.
The Knights scored their second goal of the half courtesy of Benning in the 35th minute.
At halftime, head coach T.J. Buchholz talked about putting the Beavers away in the second half and the Knights did just that, scoring five goals in the second half.
Lauren Thomas said if they didn’t pick it up they would be running tomorrow at practice.
Annie Fangman scored the first goal for the Knights in the second half with a header in the 48th minute.
Fangman scored again in the 51st minute kicking the ball past the diving BV keeper to score her second goal of the contest.
Eighty-three seconds later, Fangman completed the hat trick with her third goal of the night making the score 5-0, Knights.
Wartburg scored two more goals in this match to make the final score 7-0.
Buchholz thought the girls did a great job in the match.
“We just talked at halftime about coming out and putting them away and we did that really well and were able to score five in the second half and that was the difference,” Buchholz said. “I think we stepped up on the field right away in the second half and played great soccer.”
The Knights started their week on Tuesday, when they hosted UW-La Crosse. The score remained deadlocked at zero until the 37th minute when Fangman scored her second goal of the year.
Fangman’s goal was the only goal of the match, giving the Knights the 1-0 victory. The shutout was the eighth shutout for the Knights.
“It’s just a sloppy day for soccer with wind,” Buchholz said.
The Knights improve to 12-0-2 overall and 4-0 in the IIAC. Wartburg hosts Cornell on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
