Wartburg’s volleyball team continued their strong run in conference play after defeating the Duhawks of Loras College in four sets.
The win moved the Knights to 3-0 in conference play, the Knights’ best start since 2005.
The Knights took the first game with a score of 25-18. In the second game the Duhawks had the game tied at one set.
“Loras served us tough in game two,” said head coach Jennifer Walker. The Duhawks would have six service aces throughout the match.
Walker thought that the Knights needed to change the way they were attacking the Loras serve.
“It all starts with the pass. We needed to use our outside hitters to disrupt their offense,” Walker said.
The Knight’s took the third set 25-15 before winning a long fourth set by a 30-28 score.
The Knights were led by Kahri Heinemann and Monique Davisson who had 15 and 13 kills respectively.
Britney Hermsen had 27 set assists while Channing Merchant had 29 digs.
The Knight’s now take their 3-0 record into their bye week. Walker knows that the start is important.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve been in this position,” Walker said.
Walker said that the Knights will use their bye week as an opportunity to rest the players’ injuries and to work on conditioning.
The Knights are next in action on Oct. 2 and 3 in the Battle of the Borders tournament, which will be hosted by Loras in Dubuque.
