SPENCER ALBERS THE CIRCUIT MANAGER
I love traveling. The chance to meet new people and experience new cultures is all part of the adventure.
In less than 20 days, I will embark on my journey.
Brazil is calling my name.
I have been waiting to board the plane for a year and a half, and now it is so close but it seems less real than it ever has.
For so long, I could imagine myself sitting on the beaches of Rio or trekking through the rainforest.
Right now, I can only think of the projects I need to finish and the papers I must write.
That is why this trip is so needed. I have become so focused on the daily grind that the near future feels like fantasy.
I am traveling as part of the Castle Singers International Tour.
We will be singing and performing in many cities and villages around the southern half of Brazil.
Most of the concerts and workshops will take place in churches and schools.
Performing is great but it is not my favorite part of tour. What I am really looking forward to are the home stays, living with host families.
The past two tours I have been on have been in the U.S. and I learned a lot from the families I stayed with. They were all great families and made us feel very at home.
A Brazilian home stay will offer insight into the lives of everyday Brazilians.
We were told to prepare for cold nights; many homes do not have heat.
It’s also the little things that contribute to the adventure, eating dinner with another family is always interesting especially in a completely different culture than your own.
As the adventure begins, you can follow me and many other students’ May Term travels by reading our blogs on the Global Multicultural Studies Web site.
