The Wartburg men’s tennis team started their season off by splitting a pair of games in Madison, Wis. Saturday dropping a 7-2 loss to St. Norbert and beating Concordia (Wisc.) 5-4.
Against St. Norbert, the Knights were led by Chris Buckingham at No. 1 singles as he topped Eric Koppman 6-0, 6-1.
“Chris played really well, he played consistent and it wasn’t really about him hitting a lot of winners, but putting the ball in the right spot,” head coach Ben Oestreich said.
The Knights also found victories from Andrew Kahler and James Nguyen at No 2 doubles as they topped Nate Tackaberry and Eric Koppmann 8-4.
“They played really high energy and aggressive double and got to the net early and often,” Oestreich said.
The Knights will host Dominican this Saturday with the first serve set for 9 a.m.
