English professor and published author Paul Hedeen has recently published a collection of poems.
“The poems from ‘When I Think about Rain,’ are collected around certain topics family, satire, and different issues,” Hedeen said.
The poems were written over a few year period of time. The last poem to be written, “When I Think about Rain,” was written after seeing a picture of a Ukrainian street amidst a storm. The photo became the cover for the book.
“The poems are personal to me. They are about having daughters, being in a profession and my interests,” Hedeen said.
Hedeen has also written a novel and co-edited a collection of essays.
On top of being a published author Hedeen travels back and forth to the Ukraine as a lecturer and teacher. He recently returned from a trip where he gave lectures on American cinema and co-moderated a discussion about the issues facing American and Ukrainian youth.
Hedeen plans on going back to the Ukraine during the last week of February and the first week of March to discuss American poetry. He also hopes to perform with a woman from the Ukraine a combination poetry reading of Walt Whitman and famous Ukrainian poet Taras Shevhenko.
