Cornell opened with the first score as Brianna Wallace connected with the net during the 16th minute with an assist from Leanne Carberry.
The Rams were shut out by the Knights’ defense after scoring the opening goal. The remainder of the contest was all Knights as they went on to post four goals in the first period and two in the final frame.
Katy Wendt recorded two goals with her first during the 23rd minute and her second, a penalty kick in the final period during the 70th minute. Rachel Oswald, Annie Fangman, and Amber Bennett each had a goal in the first half, with Bennett’s being unassisted and she assisted with both Oswald’s and Fangman’s scores.
The Knights came ready to put points on the board as they out-shot the Rams in the first half 15-4. Wartburg was in the lead after one stanza, 4-1.
The second frame was in the Knights’ favor as Jamie Frederick found the back of the net with an assist from Lauren Thomas. Thomas recorded two assists in the competition, with one in the first frame as well.
The Knights concluded the day with 23 shot attempts, while the Rams only posted five.
Rachel Coleman was defending the net in the first period and she recorded two saves. Christie Ernst took over in the second period, but did not see much action as the Rams only had one shot attempt in the final frame.
Coleman and Ernst were honored this week by being named IIAC Female Soccer Players of the Week. The duo was honored for their efforts in the Knights win over Loras on Sept. 27. The duo captured a total of four saves in the 2-0 win over their conference rival.
The Knights will were in action Monday, check out The Circuit for game highlights. The Knights will resume conference play Wednesday as they travel to take on the Simpson Storm with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m.
