Last night was amazing! One of Leo’s friends from home came over with her boyfriend and the four of us headed over to another part of the city celebrate the arrival of 2009 at a friend’s place.

When we got there, it smelled strongly of cheese…which is what we ate for dinner…cheese fondue! It was amazing! But I’m pretty sure we all ate (and drank) way too much. Close to midnight, we headed out and went to a nearby lounge bar where Leo’s friend and his girlfriend work at. It was pretty funky and hip and when the clock hit midnight, we were out in the street and everyone went crazy! Lighting off fireworks and firecrackers in the streets for the first half hour of the New Year. It was insanity. Everyone was drunk or high (I mean, we are in Berlin!), making noise, running around like crazies…it was quite an enjoyable scene.

We stayed a little longer at the lounge bar before hitting up a really sketchy pub. At this point, everyone was running low on fuel, looking like drug addicts or the like, we didn’t stay too long…especially considering the state some of us were in. It was ridiculous. We got back to Leo’s sometime close to 4…earlier than I had expected, but ready for sleep nonetheless.

Today we slept in until around 2 or so before getting up and making lunch then hitting up the Sony Center in the central Berlin. It was a really neat building, kind of a bit much, a total tourist destination. We sat down for some coffee before we realized we were going to be paying close to 4 Euros for a cup of coffee, no thanks. So we got up and headed to another place, paid close to the same, but managed to warm up and then decided on heading back to the apartment to watch a movie.

We made some dinner and watched Last Holiday with Queen Latifa, helping us realize how precious our time on earth is. It’s a really cheesy movie, but it was exactly what I needed. Tomorrow we are Leo is taking me on a walking tour of the city to see the main sights, let’s hope the weather is agreeable.

Hey it’s 2009,

Maribel
