We awoke bright and early to finish packing and make our way to the train station. The trip via train from Seville to Malaga is a little over 2 hours and we had the 11:05 train to catch. We made it with plenty of time (a first) and I slept most of the way there. When we arrived, we checked into our hotel and then went to find lunch. There was a really nice tapas place in a plaza not too far from the hotel where I had the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. Gambas pil pil aka shrimps with garlic and peppers. Hot peppers. I would go back there for that. It was so amazing, I was ready to drink the hot stuff at the bottom of the bowl when I finished ha-ha. We walked down the main strip of the city, where they were preparing for the Christmas lighting ceremony. Until then, we walked up this huge hill to visit the castle on top. It offered an amazing view of the city, which lies on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It was quite the hike, but totally worth it. We entered for 2 Euros each (.60 for students) and just walked around this ancient fortress. It was pretty cool, however I wasn’t looking forward to the climb downhill…I was wearing some low heeled boots. So naturally, I took them off so I wouldn’t fall and break my face and instead slid part of the way down.
Once we finished that adventure, we hung out in the main area of the city where they had a Christmas concert and the lighting of the huge tree in the center of the main plaza. There were so many people, but it was neat to be there. It’s the first time I’ve felt like it’s the holiday season…because as most of you know, I work at Target so we’re in Christmas mode in like September ha-ha. It started to get late, so we headed to a little tapas bar, we weren’t too hungry so we got some beverages and just hung out until we gained the strength to walk back to the hotel.
It was strange to see my family packing up their things.
They just got here and they’re leaving! Sad, but at the same time, I’m just really glad they got to visit. My parents and brother had yet to visit Europe, and I think they had quite an experience. I won’t be joining them to the airport, (too emo for me) but we’ll say our farewells in the morning.
Until then,
Maribel
