Today I took my family to the cathedral. Naturally, they loved it..I don’t know a person who doesn’t. I played tour-guide Maribel as far at the architecture is concerned…thanks art history. After that, we walked to the plaza de toros aka the bullfighting ring. I had yet to visit it so this was a new experience for me as well. The visit was led by a guide who did a really great job explaining everything about the ring, the history of bullfighting etc. It was really interesting and the bullring is beautiful, however, I still don’t think I could ever watch one live. After the tour, we walked to a restaurant on that side of town where we enjoyed some fancy lunches and then we went back to the hotel so I could gather my things for class. My family walked with me to the school and then they went off and visited calle sierpes and tetuan, down by the main plaza (Plaza Nueva) to shop.

Class ended at 9:30 and my family was waiting for me in the lobby of the school. We then walked to Santa Cruz to find some dinner. Close to our apartment are many little restaurants called tapas bars and is a popular custom here in Spain. For the Spanish, it’s more of a socializing thing than anything, some places don’t even have chairs but tall tables to stand, talk, eat and drink. We were hungry so we went in a little tiny hole in the wall and grabbed a table ordering a bunch of different tapas. The best way to describe tapas is a small portion of food, it can be anything, a sandwich, some kind of meat, anything at all, as long as it’s a small portion. And when one goes to a tapas bar, you order like 2,3 or 4 different little things. We tried the mini sandwiches, some with meat, some with cheese. We also had chicken kabobs and potatoes. It was all really good and it was fun to try all the different foods. Once we finished dinner, we called it a night.

Tomorrow-visit to the Alcazar of Sevilla and maybe Triana.

=)
