Once we got to Madrid, we took the Metro to the airport, which was simple to manage only it was close to an hour ride. At the airport, it was really early and we still had four hours until our flight left so we just chilled until we could check in. When we finally boarded, I felt like it had taken us years to get to this point, and it wasn’t like that trip was over once we got to Athens because we had another three hours to kill at the Athens airport until our flight left for Santorini. The majority of the day, I was just going through the motions, my mind far, far away. When we finally got to Santorini, it was lovely weather and we walked outside expecting our shuttle service to be waiting for us…well, it was wasn’t there. We waited a good 20 minutes until we finally grabbed an 18 Euro cab to our guesthouse.
The cab ride was pretty interesting. It was close to 10pm so everything was dark and the ride was fairly hilly and took us through some very rural parts. I was almost positive we were being taken to our deaths, but we made it to Perissa Beach and the cab left us in front of Anny Studios, the guesthouse we were staying in. However, it was so dark, that we could not find it. The cab driver didn’t know English too well, but he just said walk down there you will find Anny. Cool. Well what ended up happening, after asking for directions from some people at a restaurant and STILL not finding it, was me breaking into some woman’s guesthouse to ask for directions. She was slightly surprised and asked how I got through the locked fence…I told her I was desperate but she was totally cool and gave us great directions. (She had like 11 cats and was watching CSI.)
The moment we walked into Anny Studios, the guy at the desk was super apologetic and said that the shuttle was late getting to the airport and by the time they got there, we were nowhere to be found. I was a little pissed, but got over it quick when he demonstrated some awesome hospitality. He whipped out a map of the island and told us all this great, useful information about how to get around and what to do etc. Our room was pretty cool. It had like a staircase with two beds on this elevated platform thing and a balcony looking between some buildings with a view of the ocean. The beach was like 30 meters away from us…and it was a black sand beach, which was sweet. We were all pretty awake at this point, but tired at the same time, so we just got cozy and eventually passed out with thoughts of tomorrow and the adventures that await us.
