Leo and I walked for close to 3 hours today. She took me all around the city. We began at the Berliner Dom, a multi-dome Protestant cathedral and Berlin’s most recognizable landmark, which is absolutely beautiful.

Then we walked along Unter Den Linden, one of Europe’s most popular boulevards. It was called “Idiot’s Mile” during the Cold War due to those who tried to cross to West Berlin. We also saw the Brandenburger Tor, which used to face the Berlin wall and now is the symbol of reunited Germany. It’s a very grand structure, I had a hard time imagining a wall in front of it. Then we crossed into “West Berlin” and walked to The Reichstag, Germany’s main government building. There was a ridiculous line, so we didn’t go in, but it was quite the sight, which an entirely clear, glass dome on top. We took a stroll through the Tiergarten before heading to the European Jewish Memorial. It’s a very unique memorial with bunch of huge black concrete blocks with varying heights. Then we went beneath the memorial to the museum where we spent a good hour reading and looking at photographs from the time of the Holocaust. We left rather depressed and decided it would be a good idea to do something happy. So we headed to a side of the city known for fashion and unique style. Leo works in a little clothing boutique, expensive clothing boutique, so we stopped in so she could say hello and then we did dinner at a Thai place Leo frequently visits. That is one thing I’ve loved about Berlin…they have all types of food! I’ve eaten so much since I’ve been in Germany…I’m actually looking forward to Spanish food (I can’t believe I’m saying this) so that I don’t eat as much ha-ha.

Today was my last day…I leave in the morning…really early…so we watched some spiritual/energy movie and then I packed. We called it an early night so we can get up at 5am. Gross. I don’t want to leave.

Boo,

Maribel
