The men’s and women’s track and field teams had a successful dual against Augustana (Ill.), this past weekend in the Hoover Fieldhouse and Track as the men had six first-place finishers and the women had 15.
After bringing home two IIAC titles last year, the Wartburg indoor track and field teams look to carry last year’s success into this year.
Head coach Marcus Newsom was a busy man as his Wartburg track and field team competed at two different meets on Saturday. A mixture of both the men and women went to the Iowa State Open where they had five top ten finishes. Other members of the track team traveled to Monmouth to compete in the Midwest Invitational where the Knights had two individual champions.
The Wartburg indoor track and field teams had a strong showing at the Wartburg Relays Friday night as the women captured 12 event titles and the men brought home three.
The Wartburg track and field teams brought home four first- place finishes and nine second- place finishes from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville Pioneer Open on Saturday.
Some may wonder what makes Wartburg track and field so special. Maybe it is the high level of competition the program seeks, maybe it is the emphasis on family or maybe it is those twins.
There are three sets of identical twins on the women’s track and field team.
The Wartburg track and field teams came in second place in the women’s competition and fifth place in the men’s competition at the Wartburg Select Meet on Saturday.
