The first year’s operations payment on the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center is coming due in July and with current projected revenues, the city of Waverly will likely have to pay the full guarantee of $600,000 to help cover costs, according to reports from an advisory committee of Waverly citizens and Wartburg staff.

Iowa Gov. Chet Culver announced that Waverly will receive a $1.1 million Community Development Block Grant towards a new inflatable dam Wednesday.

Governor Culver stopped in Waverly last Wednesday to talk about I-Jobs, Iowa’s infrastructure investment initiative. I-Jobs is a program that will help bring more jobs to Iowans. It is a $750 million investment that Governor Culver says will lead to billions of dollars of projects to improve the state while supporting local businesses and strengthening our economy.

A wind turbine’s blades and rotor fell to the ground Saturday afternoon. Homeowners near the site were evacuated as a precaution and no injuries were reported, according to a Waverly Light and Power Co. press release.
