At 5:45 a.m.Wednesday, the sky was still dark, but Wartburg’s campus was more alive than ever. An estimated 1,000 students streamed from all corners of campus onto Clinton Field, student senate leaders said.

Wartburg will have faculty, staff and student representatives at the Educating for Service: A Night of Celebration event hosted by the Cedar Valley Service-Learning Collaborative Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Waterloo Center for the Arts.

Wartburg’s week-long celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. came to an end last Thursday. The event was organized and led by the Black Student Union and Students for Peace and Justice.

Many service trip participants are returning for another trip this Winter Break. The passion to help, from rebuilding to restoring, is what drives some students to give back on a week normally saved for carefree vacations with their friends.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated a little differently every year on Wartburg’s campus. This year, Wartburg is offering more activities and ways for students to be involved to help recognize Martin Luther King Jr.’s message of unity and passion for service.
