NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ongoing road construction has completely closed Bremer Avenue from Seventh Street (Family Video) on the east to 11th Street (Signature Realty/Meyer Pharmacy) on the west. Please note that Fifth Avenue NW, which runs south of the Manors and Knights Village, is closed to traffic at the railroad tracks west of campus near Hertel Field due to construction work. Click here for a map detailing the road closures and alternate routes.

The college will install Pastor Brian as the new Dean of Spiritual Life and the Herbert and Cora Moehlmann Chaplaincy Chair during a service beginning at 10:15 a.m. in Wartburg Chapel. As Dean of Spiritual Life, Pastor Brian will lead the College’s ministry and promote faith exploration and development in and out of the classroom. He will also continue to teach courses in Wartburg’s Leadership program and Religion Department. Following the service, all are invited for light refreshments in the Chapel Commons.

Please include your organization’s name, contact person/phone number, first and second preferences for dates, and a short paragraph about what makes your organization great. Dates are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t delay. Dates available are: Oct. 10, Nov. 7, Nov. 28, Jan. 23, Feb. 27, and March 20. Phil and Lit Society meets Friday
Join the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society Friday, Aug. 31, in Sandra Rada Orchestra Hall (note location change) as Jacob Tews presents Beyond the Madrigals: Contemporary Repertoire for Violin and Viola. This presentation introduces a diverse array of 20th- and 21st-century composers who have explored the medium of violin/viola duos. An overview of the available repertoire and its history will preclude specific selections for highlighting, including works by three pupils of the 20th century's most influential compositional pedagogue, Nadia Boulanger. Also to be discussed are two recent works written by Jacob Tews, awardee of the 2018 Pruisner Early Career Scholarly and Creative Activity Award.
New art exhibit opens Aug. 29
"Mandalas," an exhibition of paintings by artist Bart Vargas, opens Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery on the first floor of Bachman Fine Arts Center. An artist reception is Friday, Aug. 31, 6-8 p.m., with a Gallery Talk at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public. Inspired by his travels to China, Vargas explores the relationship between the circle and the square through color theory and pattern. A mandala is a traditional spiritual symbol representing the universe. The exhibition runs through Oct. 21. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, or by appointment.
Sustainability Office has free supplies
As you plan for next year or write up your syllabi, don’t forget about the Sustainability Office’s Reused store. There are hundreds of binders, a lot of folders, and a smattering of other school supplies. Encourage your students to save their money and pick these up for free. We also have many desk organizers and other office supplies, so please check before ordering new. Due to an overabundance of binders and folders, employees are welcome to stop in to check these items off their children’s school supply list. During the summer, the Sustainability Office is open most Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Fall days will most likely be Tuesday through Thursday. When in doubt, just stroll on over and get some steps in! Contact Anne Duncan with questions.
