Staff vs. student basketball game — Faculty and staff will hoop it up against students in a charity basketball game Saturday, March 28, 7 p.m., in Levick Arena. Halftime will feature games to win prizes and a performance by the Duh-Versity Knights dance team. Admission is free; entry for participating is $5. Email Nasr Madar '16 at nasr.madar@wartburg.edu to reserve a roster spot. All donations will be given to the National Kidney Foundation to assist Iowans battling kidney cancer.
Brothers in Song — Wartburg men’s choirs Ritterchor and Festeburg will give their annual spring concert Sunday, March 29. The 4 p.m. performance in Wartburg Chapel is free and open to the public. The varied program features several soloists, music in six languages and beloved selections such as Danny Boy, Loch Lomond, and Vocal Point’s arrangement of Nearer My God to Thee.
Kastle Kapers already? — The Homecoming Committee will hold auditions for Kastle Kapers 2015 Tuesday, April 7, 7-10 p.m., in Neumann Auditorium. Auditions are this academic year due to the early nature of this fall's Homecoming. Acts of any variety are encouraged to audition. Sign-up at the Information Desk in Saemann Student Center. One slippery pig — The Students UKnight piggy bank has gone missing again, right before #UKnightDay! Help find it somewhere on campus. Watch for clues starting at 9 a.m. Friday, March 27, on the Students UKnight Facebook page. Bring the pig to the Alumni & Parent Relations Office (in Luther Hall under the orange awning) to claim your prize!
Chamber orchestra concert Friday — The Wartburg Chamber Orchestra will perform Friday, March 27, 7:30 p.m., in Wartburg Chapel. The group’s annual spring concert is free and open to the public. Dr. Daniel Kaplunas will conduct a five-selection program, which includes works by Henry Purcell and Gustav Holst. Soloists include Dr. Jennifer Larson, professor of voice, and students Megan Lang '16 and Madeline Palmer-Chase '16. The chamber orchestra comprises Wartburg students and members of the Waverly community.
Time to UKnight — UKnight Day is Tuesday, March 31. Participate by using #UKnightDay and sharing Wartburg pride on social media. Promote the college by wearing orange and black. Provide by being one of the hoped-for 500 alumni, students, parents, friends, faculty, and staff to be UKnighted by giving back to Wartburg during this special 24-hour event.
Forum on music festival — Community members interested in learning more about the Mumford and Sons’ Gentlemen of The Road music festival coming to Waverly June 19-20 are invited to a community forum Wednesday, April 1, 7 p.m., in the Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School auditorium. Representatives from the city, the Chamber of Commerce, Wartburg College and Madison House Presents, the tour’s promotion agency, will make a presentation and be available to address questions regarding tickets, concert venues, parking, security, vendor opportunities and volunteering, as well as any other questions or concerns community members may have. Speech team showcase — The Wartburg forensics team will showcase their season's work on campus before traveling to Portland, Oregon, for nationals. Tough Knight Mud Run — Challenge yourself while creating awareness for suicide prevention with SAFE's Tough Knight Mud Run. The third annual event will be Saturday, May 16, at Camp Ingawanis in Waverly. The 3.1 mile race features obstacles to test strength, stamina, and mental grit. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., and race time is 9 a.m. Registration is free for Wartburg students and open online.
Colorful 5K returns — PRSSA and Tower Agency will host the Dash of Color 5K Walk/Run Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m.. Sign up online before Friday, April 10, to receive the advance registration price of $25. Proceeds will benefit several student organizations. Will Lucky Charms win? — Students in their first, second, or third year are invited to vote for their favorite cereal Tuesday, March 31, and Wednesday, April 1, in Mensa. Look for the voting table. Dining Services wants to determine the most popular cereals so the menu can be adjusted.
Honor society induction — Wartburg's inaugural cohort of students will be inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society, Tuesday, March 31, 11:30 a.m., in Luther Hall 329. This year’s initiates are Alicia Christians '15, Cheyenne Driscoll '15, Molly Johansen '16, Lindi-K Matse '15, and Casey Pestka '15. Sunday lecture features activists — A trio of Waterloo civil rights activists will speak Sunday, March 29, as part of the J.W. Lynes Memorial Lecture in History. (Please note the change in date.) Spiritual Practices Night — Be part of a Spiritual Practices Night tonigt, March 26, 7-8:30 p.m., in Chapel Commons. St. Lizzie's in concert — The Saint Elizabeth Chorale will perform Sunday, March 29 in Wartburg Chapel. The free concert begins at 2 p.m. Karen Black, music professor and Rudi Inselmann Endowed Professor in Organ, will direct the concert. Harrison Sheckler '18 will accompany the choir.
Phil & Lit — The next meeting of the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society, Friday, March 27, 4 p.m., in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center, will feature two student presentations. Nichole Lyons '15, Benjamin Bogard '16, and Simon Sager, digital media producer, will discuss their experiences in developing experimental film for digital ministry. Kelsey Brown '15 will present Dirty War and the Immigration Problem, her capstone research about secret detention facilities during the dictatorship in Argentina.

Alumnus closes Artist Series — Steinway & Sons artist Jim McDonough '96 will conclude the Artist Series season and program series Sunday, March 29. The pianist's 3 p.m. show in Neumann Auditorium includes song arrangements from Broadway, the silver screen, and the big band, patriotic, inspirational, country and classical genres. Tickets are $20 to $30 for adults and $10 for youth. Model U.N. Conference — Students are invited to attend or participate in the Model United Nations Conference, The Status of Women In Developing Countries, Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, in Science Center 102. It runs 4-6 p.m. Friday and 3-5 p.m. Saturday. The Wartburg Model United Nations student organization hopes to have 50 delegations engage in insightful and intellectually engaging discourse. Sparkles seek mentors — The Wartburg College Sparkles seek mentors for the 2015-2016 season. Part of the national Sparkle Effect Program, Wartburg Sparkles is an inclusive cheerleading team that includes students with and without disabilities.
