NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sunday lecture features activists — A trio of Waterloo civil rights activists will speak Sunday, March 29, as part of the J.W. Lynes Memorial Lecture in History. (Please note the change in date.) Larry Stumme, Willie Mae Wright and Anna Mae Weems will be the featured speakers for the 1 p.m. panel discussion in White House Business Center 214. Click here to read more about the lecture.


Forum on music festival
— Community members interested in learning more about the Mumford and Sons’ Gentlemen of The Road music festival coming to Waverly June 19-20 are invited to a community forum Wednesday, April 1, 7 p.m., in the Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School auditorium. Representatives from the city, the Chamber of Commerce, Wartburg College and Madison House Presents, the tour’s promotion agency, will make a presentation and be available to address questions regarding tickets, concert venues, parking, security, vendor opportunities and volunteering, as well as any other questions or concerns community members may have. Those who have questions and are unable to attend may email waverlygotr@gmail.com or call the Chamber of Commerce at 352-4526 or Waverly city offices at 352-9211.


Brothers in Song
— Wartburg men’s choirs Ritterchor and Festeburg will give their annual spring concert Sunday, March 29. The 4 p.m. performance in Wartburg Chapel is free and open to the public. The varied program features several soloists, music in six languages and beloved selections such as Danny Boy, Loch Lomond, and Vocal Point’s arrangement of Nearer My God to Thee.


Chamber orchestra concert Friday
— The Wartburg Chamber Orchestra will perform Friday, March 27, 7:30 p.m., in Wartburg Chapel. The group’s annual spring concert is free and open to the public. Dr. Daniel Kaplunas will conduct a five-selection program, which includes works by Henry Purcell and Gustav Holst. Soloists include Dr. Jennifer Larson, professor of voice, and students Megan Lang '16 and Madeline Palmer-Chase '16. The chamber orchestra comprises Wartburg students and members of the Waverly community.


St. Lizzie's in concert
— The Saint Elizabeth Chorale will perform Sunday, March 29 in Wartburg Chapel. The free concert begins at 2 p.m. Karen Black, music professor and Rudi Inselmann Endowed Professor in Organ, will direct the concert. Harrison Sheckler '18 will accompany the choir.


Time to UKnight
UKnight Day is Tuesday, March 31. Participate by using #UKnightDay and sharing Wartburg pride on social media. Promote the college by wearing orange and black. Provide by being one of the hoped-for 500 alumni, students, parents, friends, faculty, and staff to be UKnighted by giving back to Wartburg during this special 24-hour event.


Staff/student basketball game
— Faculty and staff will hoop it up against students in a charity basketball game Saturday, March 28, 7 p.m., in Levick Arena. Halftime will feature games to win prizes and a performance by the Duh-Versity Knights dance team. Admission is free; entry for participating is $5. Email Nasr Madar '16 at nasr.madar@wartburg.edu to reserve a roster spot. All donations will be given to the National Kidney Foundation to assist Iowans battling kidney cancer. 


Phil & Lit
— The next meeting of the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society, Friday, March 27, 4 p.m., in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center, will feature two student presentations. Nichole Lyons '15, Benjamin Bogard '16, and Simon Sager, digital media producer, will discuss their experiences in developing experimental film for digital ministry. Kelsey Brown '15 will present Dirty War and the Immigration Problem, her capstone research about secret detention facilities during the dictatorship in Argentina.


Try your luck at cash draw
— The Wartburg Booster Club will host a cash draw Friday, March 28, 2-7 p.m., at Joe's Knight Hawk. More than $6,000 in cash prizes will be given away, including a $2,500 grand prize. The event also will feature a silent auction and raffle. Food and beverage are included in the registration. Speech team showcase
 — The Wartburg forensics team will showcase their season's work on campus before traveling to Portland, Oregon, for nationals. All are welcome to support the team Monday, March 30, 6-7 p.m., in McElroy Center 134. For more information, contact David Brennan, assistant director of forensics, at david.brennan@wartburg.edu.


Knightline submissions
— The April edition of Knightline—the email newsletter that goes out to alumni, parents, and friends of Wartburg—will be sent Thursday, April 2. If you or your department have news or events you’d like to include, fill out the submissions form by Monday, March 30, at this link. Tough Knight Mud Run
 — Challenge yourself while creating awareness for suicide prevention with SAFE's Tough Knight Mud Run. The third annual event will be Saturday, May 16, at Camp Ingawanis in Waverly. The 3.1 mile race features obstacles to test strength, stamina, and mental grit. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., and race time is 9 a.m. Online registration is open.


Colorful 5K returns
— PRSSA and Tower Agency will host the Dash of Color 5K Walk/Run Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m.. Sign up online before Friday, April 10, to receive the advance registration price of $25. Proceeds will benefit several student organizations. Contact Elizabeth Heying '15 at elizabeth.heying@wartburg.edu with questions. Honor society induction
— Join the Department of Social Science in welcoming the inaugural cohort of students into Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society. The induction will be Tuesday, March 31, 11:30 a.m., in Luther Hall 329. This year’s initiates are Alicia Christians '15, Cheyenne Driscoll '15, Molly Johansen '16, Lindi-K Matse '15, and Casey Pestka '15. Disability professionals on campus
— An event led by Kelly Beck, Pathways academic success associate, will bring approximately 30 post-secondary disability professionals to campus Friday, March 27. Wartburg will host an ILLOWA AHEAD (Iowa-Illinois chapter of the Association on Higher Education and Disability) roundtable, New Information About College Student Mental Health


Educators on campus
— The Wartburg Department of Education is hosting a team of educators from the Iowa Department of Education and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education through today, March 26. The educators will talk with students, faculty, administrators, and staff as they assess the program for accreditation and state approval of the Teacher Education Program.


Celebrate Culture Week
— Nearly 60 countries are being represented during Culture Week, which runs through Saturday, March 28. Themed #WeAreOne, the celebration features events sponsored by Wartburg’s International Student Programs Office. Click here to see the full schedule.


Student Employee Appreciation Week
— Wartburg celebrates Student Employee Appreciation Week through Saturday, March 28. Supervisors are encouraged to find a way to thank the student employees who are vital to maintaining the college's day-to-day operations. Also, stay tuned, as the 2015 Student Employee of the Year will be announced, and the award nominees will be recognized.


Model U.N. Conference
— All are invited to the Model United Nations Conference, The Status of Women In Developing Countries, Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, in Science Center 102. It runs 4-6 p.m. Friday and 3-5 p.m. Saturday. The Wartburg Model United Nations student organization hopes to have 50 delegations engage in insightful and intellectually engaging discourse. Alumnus closes Artist Series
— Steinway & Sons artist Jim McDonough '96 will conclude the Artist Series season and program series Sunday, March 29. The pianist's 3 p.m. show in Neumann Auditorium includes song arrangements from Broadway, the silver screen, and the big band, patriotic, inspirational, country and classical genres. Tickets are $20 to $30 for adults and $10 for youth. Student showcase — Students who have participated in The Residence and Löhe Hall service-learning projects, Orange Connection, and service trips this academic year will share their experiences at The Showcase, Tuesday, March 31, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in the McCoy rooms of Saemann Student Center. Research stipend applications
—  Applications for student research stipends for this summer and the next academic year are now available. The R.J. McElroy Student/Faculty Research Fund application and cover page, found here, are due Friday, April 17. Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of faculty members, and up to four proposals will be forwarded to the McElroy/Iowa College Foundation for consideration. Applications require dual authorship by the proposing student or teams of students and a sponsoring faculty member. The application deadline for Wartburg Undergraduate Research Fellowships also is Friday, April 17. Program information can be found here. Applications require authorship by the proposing student and a letter of support by the sponsoring faculty member. Research in credit courses is not eligible for either program.


igKnight Mentoring
 — The Pathways Center is combining the College Achievement Program (CAP) and the College Achievement Program Extended (CAP+) mentoring programs into one peer-mentoring program this fall. igKnight will focus on mentoring students wherever they are in their college experience. Although a majority of the program focuses on mentoring first-year students on college success, anyone can join the program at any point and be assigned a peer-mentor for assistance with academic, personal, and professional goals. Second-, third-, and fourth-year students are encouraged to apply by Thursday, April 2, to be a mentor. The position involves goal-setting, relationship building, academic success, cross-cultural awareness, and understanding the pillars and culture of Wartburg.
