MLK Week — Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

with diversity-inspired activities this week. Classes will be shortened today, Jan. 19, to allow for service trip participation. A diversity fair tomorrow, Jan. 20, 5-7 p.m., in the Saemann Student Center ballrooms will highlight student groups and community organizations. Wednesday's schedule includes  a chapel service featuring the Rev. Anthony Scott ’10 and a special MLK Eucharist. A diversity dialogue, Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere, will be Thursday, 11:30 a.m., in McCaskey Lyceum. Visit wartburg.edu/vac for event details. 


TriByKnight Triathlon 
— The TriByKnight Triathlon Saturday, May 2, will consist of an indoor 300-yard swim, 15-mile bike ride, and 5K run. Participants can compete as individuals or a relay team. Register at the main desk of The W for $45 through Saturday, Jan. 31, or $55 afterward. Registration includes a swim cap, moisture-wicking T-shirt, race goodie bag, and post-race meal and drink at The Fainting Goat. Click here for more information.


Tuition remission/exchange program
— The Human Resources & Financial Aid Office will host three meetings regarding the tuition remission/exchange programs. Each tuition program will be detailed, including eligibility and deadlines. Those who have a dependent that may utilize the benefit are encouraged to attend. The meetings, in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center, are Tuesday, Jan. 20, 10-11 a.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 21, 3:45-4:45 p.m.; and Thursday, Jan. 22, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Please RSVP to Amy Wilson at amy.wilson@wartburg.edu.


Credit Unit Report
— The Fall Term 2014 Student Credit Unit Report has been released by the Enrollment Management Office and is available online. Questions can be directed to Edith Waldstein, vice president for Enrollment Management, at edith.waldstein@wartburg.edu.


RICE Day notice
— Wartburg's fourth-annual Research, Internship, and Creative Endeavor Day celebration will be Thursday, April 9. To enable participation by the entire campus, classes will not meet. RICE Day recognizes student and faculty achievements in and out of the classroom, and showcases academic and co-curricular pursuits across disciplines. Last year, 400 students were involved in 550 poster sessions, oral and video presentations, readings, panel discussions, displays, art exhibits, and music performances. Instructions for submitting session and participant information can be found at www.wartburg.edu/rice. Session forms are due Jan. 30. The RICE Day Committee will review all requests.


Knightliters reunion concert
— Past and current Knightliters Jazz Band members will perform Saturday, Jan. 24, 7 p.m., in Knights Ballrooms, Saemann Student Center. The free concert will feature the current group and an alumni band with members from the early ’90s through 2014. Student employee award
— Nominate your outstanding student employee for Student Employee of the Year, a contest held to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who work while attending college. Learn more about the contest and find the nomination forms at wartburg.edu/jobs. Nominations are due to Abbie Raum, student employment coordinator, at abbie.raum@wartburg.edu by Monday, February 16.


MLK Jr. Day class schedule
 — Today, Jan. 19, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Wartburg alters the class schedule on this federal holiday to free students and faculty to participate in afternoon service projects. Class periods one through six will meet for 50 minutes with a 10-minute break between each. Weekday Chapel will not be held. Evening classes will meet at their regularly scheduled time. Period 1 (regularly starting at 7:45 a.m.) will be 7:45-8:35 a.m. Period 2 (9 a.m.) will be 8:45-9:35 a.m. Period 3 (10:45 a.m.) will be 9:45-10:35 a.m. Period 4 (noon) will be 10:45-11:35 a.m. Period 5 (1:15 p.m.) will be 11:45 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. Period 6 (2:30 p.m.) will be 12:45-1:35 p.m.


Phil and Lit
— The Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will meet Friday, Jan. 23, 4 p.m., in McCoy West, Saemann Student Center. Dr. Matthew Zart, assistant professor of chemistry, will speak on Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry at Wartburg College.


Study abroad deadline —
Advisers with advisees considering spending a semester studying abroad either Fall Term 2015 or Winter Term 2016 should remind students that the application deadline is Monday, Feb. 2. Drag show applications — Ready to party like it’s 1999? Alliance seeks students, faculty, and staff to perform ingaY2K, this year's drag show featuring a late 1990s/early 2000s theme, Saturday, Feb. 21, 7:30 p.m., in Neumann Auditorium. Perform solo or with friends in one of Wartburg’s most popular campus-wide events. Send applications to Cassie Hales, assistant director of Residential Life and Alliance adviser, at cassandra.hales@wartburg.edu. Songs do not have to be from the late 1990s or early 2000s, though ones from that era are encouraged. However, all selections must be family-friendly.


State of the College Address
— Faculty and staff are invited to hear remarks from President Colson on the state of the college, Tuesday, Jan. 27, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in McCaskey Lyceum. Colson will speak about progress made on the strategic emphases for 2014-15, the current budget process, and other topics pertinent to the college’s current status. 


Paycheck process change
 — Starting this month, paycheck stubs will be available online rather than sent through the mail. (This change affects those utilizing direct deposit, not those receiving paper paychecks.) Please use the Online Paystub Instructions form on this webpage to familiarize yourself with the process for accessing your paystub. Also, look for an email from Human Resources & Payroll with more information about this important procedural change. 


Student Leadership & Service Awards
— It’s time to honor our outstanding students and organizations. Visit wartburg.edu/studentlife by Friday, Feb. 6, to fill out your nominations for the Nobility Award, Outstanding Organization Award, Outstanding International Senior Award, Dell Awards for Peace & Justice, Outstanding Organization Service Award, Debbie Heida Award, and Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Descriptions and criteria of the awards are on the nomination site. Winners will be recognized at the Student Leadership & Service Awards Saturday, March 14. Sustainability survey 
— Faculty and staff are encouraged to take a short, confidential survey that will measure the participant's sustainability awareness and knowledge on the campus. Take the 10-minute survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/1415sustainability by today, Jan. 19. It will help complete the Sustainability Tracking and Rating System through the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. Questions can be referred to Anne Duncan, sustainability coordinator, at anne.duncan@wartburg.edu.
