NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

December Commencement and Sunday worship — Thirty-seven graduates will receive diplomas during midyear Baccalaureate and Commencement Sunday, Dec. 14, 10:30 a.m., in Wartburg Chapel. The Rev. Brian Beckstrom, campus pastor, will give the message. Music will be provided by the Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Daniel Kaplunas, assistant professor of music. A reception will follow in the lobby of Bachman Fine Arts Center. The service will be live streamed on Knight Vision.


Refund checks and paychecks
 — Do you have credit on your student account and need money for the holidays? Student account refund check requests need to be in before noon, today, Dec. 8, and will be available for pick up after noon, Wednesday, Dec. 10. Contact the Business Office in Luther Hall 212 or at 352-8411 to request a refund check. Also contact the Business Office if you would like your work study paycheck mailed out over break.


Incomplete grade information
 — Remember to complete a Student Request for Incomplete Grade form if you have the consent of your instructor to postpone required course work due to extenuating circumstances. The form is not required for internships and venture education course work, but it is encouraged. The form is available on My.Wartburg or in the Registrar’s Office, Luther Hall 216. Any incomplete grades without a completed form will be changed to an F Tuesday, Dec. 16, 4:30 p.m. Contact the Registrar’s Office in person or at 352-8272 for more information.


Copies of the Castle
— The Fall 2014 Castle is printed and ready for reading. Pick up your free copy Tuesday, Dec. 9, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., or Wednesday, Dec. 10, 5-7 p.m., in Shotwell Tower, Saemann Student Center.

Morning Mentor
hosts Rock
– TJ Warren, Pathways Center associate for vocation and mentoring, will interview Missy Buttry Rock ’05 on his weekly KWAR 89.9 FM show, The Morning Mentor, Tuesday, Dec. 9, 9:30 a.m. The three-time cross country national champion, who was recently featured on espnw.com, will discuss her journey as a stay-at-home mom and professional runner. 

Rep Wartburg in video — Help Wartburg and lighten the mood before finals by participating in an entertaining promotional video shoot Tuesday, Dec. 9. The Marketing & Communication Office seeks at least 200 students, faculty, and staff to pack The W's Hall of Champions at 11 a.m. sharp. Expect the shoot to take up to an hour. No specific attire is needed; just don't wear a Luther shirt! Email markcomm@wartburg.edu with questions.


Ugly sweater dinner party
 — ETK and Dining Services will host an Eat, Drink, & Be Ugly Sweater Party tonight, Dec. 8, during regular dining hours in Mensa. Wear your ugliest Christmas sweater while enjoying a special dinner, dessert, and games.

De-Stress Fest — Need a break during finals? Vogel Library is hosting its second annual De-Stress Fest through Friday, Dec. 12. Stations will be set up with Play-Doh, puzzles, board games, Legos, and more during regular library hours. Dog-petting sessions, hosted by ID315 in partnership with Retrieving Freedom, will be Dec. 8 and 9, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. 


Stress-Free Zone
 — Stress-relieving activities will be offered Wednesday, Dec. 10, 4-8 p.m., in the McCoy rooms of Saemann Student Center as a study break during finals week. Pet therapy for finals

Dance Team tryouts
 — Tryouts for the Dance Team's winter squad will be Tuesday, Dec. 9, 5-8 p.m., in McCaskey Lyceum. The team will perform routines in a variety of styles at basketball halftimes during Winter Term. Those auditioning will perform 20-30 seconds of their own choreography (pom or jazz preferred), a toe touch, double/triple pirouettes, and two additional skills. Calling all science fans
— An informational meeting for this year's Physics and Chemistry Demonstration Show is today, Dec. 8, 1 p.m., in Science Center 102. The Physics and Chemistry Demonstration Show will be Saturday, Feb. 21, in McCaskey Lyceum of Saemann Student Center. Student volunteers are needed to play a variety of roles: performing and explaining demonstrations, interacting with kids at hands-on activity stations, and performing behind-the-scenes tasks like production and setup. Email chemistryclub@wartburg.edu for more information. This student-led event is co-hosted by the Wartburg Chemistry Club, the Society of Physics Students, and the Wartburg Engineering Science Club. It will air on Knight Vision.

Holiday symphony concert — The Wartburg Community Symphony's holiday concert is Tuesday, Dec. 9, 7 p.m., in Neumann Auditorium. Enjoy the symphony’s rendition of music from Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev with life-sized puppets from Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre acting out the story. The symphony also will be joined by 62 members of the Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School Orchestra. The show will include two holiday carols, and a reception will follow the performance. Wartburg students with ID will be admitted for free.

Lunch 'n' Learn
 — Waverly Health Center will offer a Lunch 'n’ Learn event Wednesday, Dec. 17, noon-1 p.m., in The W's Wet Classroom. Brian Pins ’05, community health specialist, will present Healthy Holiday Tips, covering practical tips for the holidays, such as stress management, scheduling, and meal preparation. Those attending the free event are invited to bring a lunch. Call The W at 352-8249 for more information.
