NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

St. Elizabeth awards — Six students and faculty have been honored for their commitment to service as part of the annual St. Elizabeth Week celebration. Paris White ’15Ashley Lahti ’16, and Tawanda Murinda ’15 received the St. Elizabeth Award for Service, which recognizes students who exemplify a commitment to service and desire to live a life that embodies the college’s mission. The Rev. Brian BeckstromDr. LeAnn Faidley, and Dr. Bill Soesbe received the Pastor Larry Trachte Award for Service, given to faculty or staff who embody his enthusiasm, support, dedication, and overall commitment to Wartburg’s mission of service. 


Football tailgate
 — The Alumni Office will host a tailgate before Saturday's football game from 10 a.m. to noon. Look for the Wartburg tent in O Lot, just west of Walston-Hoover Stadium. Alumni Office employees will hand out giveaways, and grilled food will be available for purchase. Bring your own beverages and chairs. For more information, email alumni@wartburg.edu


Chamber orchestra concert
 — Popular music by 20th century composers highlights the free Wartburg Chamber Orchestra Fall Concert Friday, Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m., in Wartburg Chapel. Dr. Daniel Kaplunas will conduct 17 college musicians and five high school students from Denver and Waverly. 


Dance Marathon holiday bazaar
 — Dance Marathon will host a holiday bazaar featuring local vendors Saturday, Nov. 22, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., in the McCoy rooms of Saemann Student Center. For more information, email wcdm@wartburg.edu


Research seminar
 — The next Math, Computer Science & Physics Department seminar will be Tuesday, Nov. 25, 11:30 a.m., in Science Center 134. Dr. LeAnn Faidley, assistant professor of engineering science, will lead this session on Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). A panel of Wartburg students who recently participated in REU programs will share their experiences. Students interested in off-campus research are particularly encouraged to attend.


Phil and Lit 
— Dr. Charles Figura, professor of physics and astronomy, will present Massive Stars, the Milky Way, and You: The Role of Massive Stars in the Life of the Galaxy to the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society Friday, Nov. 21, 4 p.m., in McCoy West, Saemann Student Center.


Vagina Monologues
 auditions
 — Auditions for The Vagina Monologues are today, Nov. 20, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m., in the Alliance office in The Hub, Saemann Student Center. To sign up for a 10-minute slot, visit the Alliance office. In the form of an episodic play, The Vagina Monologues tells women’s stories of domestic violence, rape, and other issues. The production, set for Feb. 12-14, 8 p.m., will raise funds for Cedar Valley Friends of the Family, a local women’s shelter, as a part of V-Day, a worldwide anti-violence awareness movement. National Trans* Day 
— Alliance will host a candlelight vigil today, Nov. 20, 8 p.m., by Wartburg Chapel to remember all trans* people lost to violence and hate crimes this year. The vigil will be led by Pastor Brian Beckstrom.


St. Elizabeth Week 
— Participate in community activism and service during St. Elizabeth Week through Friday, Nov. 21. Organized by the Volunteer Action Center, the week will include activities — developed by student organizations — that focus on efforts to alleviate hunger and homelessness. A launch event featuring live music and prizes will be Saturday, 6-8 p.m., in Cardinal Commons. Other highlights include the Voices of the Issues panel Tuesday, 11:30 a.m., in Whitehouse Business Center 214, and the presentation of service awards during chapel Wednesday, 10:15 a.m. Click here for more information, including a full schedule.

The Changing Face of Masculinity and Femininity
 — The Wartburg Scholars’ Women & Public Policy class will host an informal discussion panel, The Changing Face of Masculinity and Femininity: Questioning the Social Constructs of Gender and Sexuality, Monday, Nov. 24, 7-8 p.m., at the Waverly Public Library. The discussion will feature guest speakers from the community. Donations will be accepted for Cedar Valley Friends of the Family. Attendees are encouraged to take an optional pre-survey. — Would you participating in a fishing/outdoor club on campus? If so, contact Kamden Glade at kamden.glade@wartburg.edu or Sean Engel at sean.engel@wartburg.edu, as they are gauging interest to determine such a club's feasibility.


Sustainability representative
 — EcoReps hosts an informational meeting on increasing sustainability on campus Tuesday, Nov. 25, 7 p.m., in Cardinal Commons. Learn more about recycling on campus, sustainability over Thanksgiving, and opportunities for service focusing on sustainability and environment issues. Photo contest voting
 — The Study Abroad Office encourages voting for the Faculty Choice Award in its photo contest featuring images from study abroad trips. The more than 40 submissions are on display in Saemann Student Center. Ballots are available in The Hub.
