NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
Wartburg Players present The Rabbit Hole
The Wartburg Players will present The Rabbit Hole, a 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Lindsay-Abaire, on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m., in McCaskey Lyceum. This funny, tragic, and deeply moving story follows a young couple and their family as they attempt to cope with the loss of their young son. (Some scenes may not be appropriate for children.) This production is student-directed and student-run. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by visiting the Ticket Office in the student center: $10 for adults, $5 for students (K-12 and non-Wartburg College), and free with a Wartburg student ID.
Student Employment Appreciation Week
Wartburg College will celebrate Student Employment Appreciation Week April 2-8. During the week, we will recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of our student employees and their supervisors. The Student Employment Office is asking departments to have their supervisors and student employees trace their hands on colored paper, cut them out, and submit them to Luther Hall 212 by Friday, March 31, as part of a campus-wide project for the celebratory week. Supplies are available in Luther Hall 212, if needed. 
Farewell reception
Faculty and staff are welcome to attend a farewell reception for Drs. Brian and Judith Jones, professors of religion, and Stephanie Blake, office coordinator for the Religion & Philosophy Department, on Thursday, April 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Chapel Commons.
Trigger Warning Campus Tour
Trigger Warning Campus Tour featuring Kimberly Corban will be on campus Tuesday, April 4, at 6 p.m. in McCaskey Lyceum. Kimberly Corban is a rape survivor twho tells her story. She advocates that being a victim is never a choice, but becoming a survivor is. This event is hosted by Wartburg College Republicans. Please contact Emily Laudner for details.
World War I film discussion series 
Students, faculty, and staff are invited to a showing of Warhorse on Tuesday, March 28, at 7 p.m., in Patriots Hall, 1300 Fourth St. NW, Waverly. Sergeant York will be shown in the same location Tuesday, April 4.The film series commemorates the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. Wartburg College humanities and social work faculty members are partnering with the new Waverly-area veterans post. All area veterans and their families also are invited to view the films and discuss their reactions. Access to these films is made possible by funding from the Harry & Polly Slife Professor in Humanities, historian Dr. Terrence Lindell, and the Slife Institute for Social Work.

Phil and Lit Society
The Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will meet Friday, March 31, at 4 p.m., in McCoy West. The first speaker will be Noah Dwyer, a fourth-year religion major. The title of his talk is A New Interpretation of the Beatitudes. The second speaker will be Sarah Leonhart, a fourth-year psychology major. The title of her talk is Gender Perceptions of Males and Females in Positions of Power.

Third-floor library rooms reserved Friday
Designated study rooms will be reserved on the third floor of Vogel Library for social work mock interviews Friday, March 31, from 10 a.m. to noon. All other rooms will be open for student use, as well as Counseling Services and Pathways.
Hoops 4 Hope game
BSU will host its fifth annual Hoops 4 Hope basketball game, where faculty/staff/alumni play against current students, at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 4, in Levick Arena. All proceeds will go to IMPACT, a youth basketball league out of Waterloo. Donations of $5 from all players are appreciated. For more information, please contact bsu@wartburg.edu.
Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar 
The next Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar will be Tuesday, March 28, at 11:30 a.m., in SC 134. Alex Jensen ’15, a graduate student in mechanical engineering at Iowa State University, will discuss his current research in a talk titled The Evolution of Hardness and Tribofilm Growth During Running-In of Case Carburized Steel Under Boundary Lubrication. All are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.

Faculty, staff honored with awards
Dr. Andrea Eslick, assistant professor of psychology, is the recipient of the 2017 John O. Chellevold Student Award for Excellence in Teaching and Professional Service. Other honorees include Dr. Bret Billet, professor of political science, Advisor of the Year Award; the Rev. Ramona Bouzard, Herbert & Cora Moehlmann Chaplaincy Chair, Outstanding Administrative Staff Award; and Bernard Holland, security officer, Outstanding Non-Administrative Staff Award. Billet and Eslick will be honored Tuesday, April 11, at 10 a.m., in Neumann Auditorium, during the Excellence in Teaching and Scholarship Convocation. Bouzard and Holland were honored at a reception earlier this month.

Posekany literacy awards
Education Department and Education Unit faculty and students accepted into the Teacher Education Program (TEP), as well as Reading Endorsement students not admitted to the TEP, are eligible for special funding to attend the Iowa Reading Association ESEA Title 1 Conference June 27-28 in Ames. Early-bird registration fees range from $30-$190, and registration is open through Friday, March 31. Wartburg registrants may request reimbursement from the Institutional Advancement Office in Luther Hall (contact Suzie Kramer, 352-8495, for information). Lent 2017: Wholeheartedness
During our Wednesday Lenten chapel time, the worshipping community will focus on wholeheartedness and what it might look like for us to live in God’s promise of wholeness in Christ Jesus. Join us at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, for a Lenten Interfaith Chapel Service by Dr. Kuni Terasawa, focusing on the Lenten topic “compassion.” College administrative offices will be closed during chapel time, 10:15-10:35 a.m., Wednesdays during Lent to allow staff and faculty the opportunity to attend chapel. The W, Security Office, and Information Desk will remain open.

Looking to jump-start your faith life? PROFESSIONAL NOTES
 
Bonita Bock, director of Urban Studies, recently visited Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill., to meet with 11 Augustana students who will participate in the Wartburg West program during the 2017-18 academic year. Bonita also hosted a prospective-students gathering. This will be the fifth year Augustana has participated in the Wartburg West program.

Kristin Teig Torres, director of community engagement, has been invited to be a panelist for the Iowa Ideas Project on Tuesday, March 28, in Cedar Falls. The project addresses issues facing the state in seven key areas: K-12 and higher education, energy, environment, workforce/regionalism, health care, and transportation. Kristin will discuss the challenges and opportunities while spotlighting ideas that are taking root for positive social change.

The Rev. Dr. Kit Kleinhans, professor of religion, keynoted the ELCA Covenant Cluster Network Gathering in Ashland, Neb., Feb. 23-25. She gave two presentations on the theme Reformation: Creative Disruption Then and Now. Kit also keynoted the Northeastern Iowa Synod Day of Renewal in Cedar Falls on March 16. She spoke on the themes Luther’s Small Catechism as Gift and The Large Catechism and Daily Life.

Taylor Anderson ’99 was named the director of the Iowa Hall of Pride effective Aug. 1, as reported by the Des Moines Register.

The results of the men's and women's indoor track and field teams at the NCAA DIII nationals was reported in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

The wrestling team won its 13th national title, an NCAA record, and Eric DeVos '18 was crowned as national champion as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier and Des Moines Register.

The men's basketball team's run in the NCAA Tournament ended with an 80-69 loss to Augustana in the Sweet Sixteen, as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

Wrestler Kyle Fank ’18 talked about making his national tournament debut with the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

Wrestler Andrew Steiert ’17 talks injuries and farming with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

The wrestling team is considered a favorite for the team title heading into the Division III National Championships, as reported by USA Wrestling

Christopher Smith ’06 is the conductor of the Rock Valley Chapter of the Badger Chordhawks Chorus, a community-based in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, according to the GazetteXtra
