Black History Month events

Wartburg’s Black Student Union is planning several events to celebrate Black History Month. Direct questions to bsu@wartburg.edu.

  • Peace Dialogue: Thursday, Feb. 16, 8 p.m., WBC 214 (Buckmaster). This event will be an open session for Wartburg students to have conversations that should happen but do not. Topics may be difficult to discuss, but it will be a great night!
  • Candlelight Dinner: Wednesday, Feb. 22, 6:30 p.m., in the Heritage Ballroom. The Black Student Union will discuss its organization as well as Black History Month while students, faculty, and staff mingle over dinner. Sign-up for the Candlelight Dinner will be Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 15 and 16, from 5:15 to 7 p.m., in Mensa. The cost for students with a Board Plan is $2. This may be paid with points or cash at sign-up. Off-Board Students also may attend, and their cost will be $10 at sign-up. Special dietary considerations will be taken into account.
  • The Slam: Thursday, Feb. 23, 8 p.m., Cardinal Commons. The Slam will feature singing, dancing, and poetry and will be a chance for students to display their talents. The event is free, and everyone is welcome.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

 Juice deadline note
There will be no Juice on Monday, Feb. 27, due to Winter Break. The deadline for the March 6 edition of The Juice will be Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. Please take note of the deadline.
Off-campus housing release
Applications now are available in the Student Life Office. All full-time students must live on campus. Representatives of the Off-Campus Review Committee review all submitted applications for off-campus approval. Criteria that are heavily considered include: the student being married, having dependents, living with a parent or legal guardian within 30 miles of the campus, will be 23 years old by Sept. 1, or has applied and received a special exemption from the Off-Campus Housing Review Committee, which is extremely rare. Students who move off campus without permission will continue to be charged for on-campus room and board. Students should plan to live on campus the entire duration of their Wartburg education. Applications and all supporting material are due Feb. 17.
Wartburg West applications
Applications for third- and fourth-year students who want to attend Wartburg West in fall 2017 or winter 2018 are due Wednesday, Feb. 15. Applications for students applying to the sophomore program for fall 2017 have a deadline of March 9. Summer 2017 is full. Submit all materials and any questions to Jo Dorrance in Student Life.
#TAGDAY2017
Members of Students UKnight have placed tags around campus to raise awareness of the impact our donors have on campus. Tags include various buildings, equipment, art, rooms, etc. that have been made possible by donations from alumni, parents, friends, faculty/staff and students. Students who have received a donor-funded scholarship will receive a special tag to wear on Wednesday as a sign of gratitude for their contributions. Share how these gifts make Wartburg worth it to you by using #TAGDay2017.
Watch Racing to Zero
Stop by Grossmann 131 on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 8-9 p.m., for a viewing of Racing to Zero, presented by the Sustainability Office.
