German-language film series

Wartburg College’s German-language film series, Profiles in Courage, continues Tuesday, Jan. 31, with a showing of Good Bye, Lenin! The film, which will be screened with English subtitles, begins at 7:15 p.m. in WBC 116. Subsequent films include The Lives of Others on Feb. 7 and Jack on Feb. 21. All screenings are free and open to the public. Students will introduce the film and lead a discussion following the viewing. Additional information is available at www.wartburg.edu/german-film/.

 
NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
Vander Plaats, Red Wing event canceled
The event featuring Bob Vander Plaats, CEO of The Family Leader, and Donna Red Wing, former One Iowa executive director, set for Tuesday, Jan. 31, and hosted by Wartburg College Republicans, has been canceled. The group hopes to reschedule, but no details are available at this time. Direct questions to emily.laudner@wartburg.edu.
Open house and applications
for The Residence
Learn more about applying to live in The Residence at an open house Thursday, Feb. 2, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., in The Residence lounge on first floor. Come and see a suite, ask questions, find roommates, and enjoy treats. The Residence features eight-person suites with a large living space and two bathrooms per unit. Start to form your group now and apply for next year! Applications will be available on the Info Center starting Wednesday, Feb. 1; the deadline is Feb. 26. Each suite connects with a community partner, and students contribute six to 10 hours of community service each month. Direct questions to Kristin Teig Torres.
Sign up for Candlelight Dinner 
Sign up for the Candlelight Dinner hosted by The V-Day Campaign on Wednesday, Feb. 1, and Thursday, Feb. 2, from 5:15 to 7 p.m., in Mensa. The Candlelight Dinner will take place Wednesday, Feb. 8, 6:30 p.m., in the Heritage Ballroom. The V-Day Campaign will discuss their organization while students, faculty, and staff mingle over dinner. The cost for students with a board plan is $2. Pay with points or cash at the time of sign up. Off-board students also may attend, and their cost will be $10 at the time of sign up. Special dietary considerations will be taken into account.
Phil and Lit Society
The next meeting of the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will be Friday, Feb. 3, 4 p.m., in McCoy West. The speaker will be Dr. Erika Lindgren, associate professor of history. The title of her talk is Vikings in the Scottish Isles.
Need a place to watch the Super Bowl?
SCC Snack Bowl is coming this Sunday, Feb. 5, in the ballrooms! This is a free event for Wartburg students. What’s better than watching football on the big screen, fun trivia, free food, and relaxing in the comfort of the Football Lounge? Watch the Falcons and the Patriots on the 10x10 projection screen as they compete for the Vince Lombardi Trophy! We will also have a nacho bar and root beer floats. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. and food starts at 6 p.m. Come and join us for the fun!
Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar
The next Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar will be Tuesday, Jan. 31, 11:30 a.m., in SC 134. Dr. Ben Bousquet, associate professor of physics, will discuss recent highlights and discoveries from the world of physics. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.
The Vagina Monologues performances
Performances of The Vagina Monologues will take place Thursday, Feb. 9, and Friday, Feb. 10, 7:30 p.m., in the Lyceum. The Vagina Monologues is a student-run stage production that dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage, and excitement buried in women’s experiences. Tickets for the performances are $5, and all proceeds will be donated to Cedar Valley Friends of the Family. Please join us in celebrating our 11th year of presenting work based on the lives of real women written by Eve Ensler and retold by your peers. Donate dresses to Prom’s Closet
Say yes to donating your dress! Donate your gently used formal dresses, shoes and accessories to give girls in our community an affordable way to enjoy their prom night. The Wartburg drop-off location is the Volunteer Action Center in Student Saemann Center, which will accept donations until Monday, Feb. 20. Direct questions to vac@wartburg.edu.
Giant heart Valentine cookies 
Order a giant heart cookie for your sweetheart through GET online ordering (order through the CATERING TAKE OUT store) beginning Wednesday, Feb. 1, through Tuesday, Feb. 14. The cookies will be available for pick up in the Den. The cookies can be decorated with your choice of message: “Happy Valentine’s Day,” “Be My Valentine!” “Hugs & Kisses,” or “I Love You!” If you have questions or would like to add a personal message, call the dining office at (319) 352-8303.

Last day to charge textbooks
The last day to charge textbooks and supplies to your tuition account is Monday, Jan. 30. The Wartburg Store reminds you to pick up your second seven-week course materials before this date. 
Library extends Saturday hours
In response to student feedback, Vogel Library has extended its Saturday hours. For the remainder of Winter Term, the library will be open from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. Sunday hours will remain the same, 1 p.m.-midnight. Direct questions to Mary Reding
Dance Marathon Pizza Ranch fundraiser
Wartburg College’s Dance Marathon will be having multiple Pizza Ranch fundraisers in the upcoming weeks. When you eat at Pizza Ranch in Waverly, Dance Marathon will get a portion of the proceeds as well as tips. Fundraising nights are Jan. 30 and Feb. 6, 13, 20, and 22.

The Jesus Experiment
Looking to jump-start your faith life? Spiritual Life & Campus Ministry is offering a discipleship process called The Jesus Experiment to help you answer the question, “How would Jesus live my life if he were living it?” Join us each Wednesday at 7 p.m., in the Chapel Commons. Sanctuary on Wednesday
Expect a relaxed time of Bible study, fellowship, worship band music, prayers, and communion. Sanctuary takes place at 9 p.m. each Wednesday in Chapel Commons (basement). Come by at 8:45 for snacks and conversation.

Brittni Lair ’12 has fulfilled her dream of owning a gym, as reported by the Albert Lea Tribune.

The wrestling team swept its three opponents during the Iowa Conference Duals in Dubuque, as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

The wrestling team took down Nebraska Wesleyan, 48-0, as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

Jen Loeb '98 described her Mount Everest ascent during a public event at the Jesup Public Library, as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

The men's basketball team is looking to end its NCAA tournament drought in 2017, as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

Angie Widner ’99 was named CEO of the Family YMCA of Black Hawk County, according to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.
