Maintenance requests — Thanks to everyone who has utilized the online maintenance request process, called Maintenance Connection. Unfortunately, some individuals do continue to simply let the Operations and Maintenance person in their area know when something needs to be addressed via face-to-face conversation, a phone call, or email, while others have been calling or emailing the Maintenance Office. Effective immediately, unless there is an emergency, if you ask an Operations and Maintenance employee to address an issue, they have been told to politely ask you to enter the request into the online system to make sure the issue is handled appropriately. All faculty, staff, and students have the ability to enter a request.

Dining Services Customer Satisfaction Survey — Participate in Dining Services’ annual Customer Satisfaction Survey on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 7-8, in the Den, Konditorei, Zesty Orange, and Mensa. Fill out the survey and return the survey card with your name and email on it to one of the dining areas for a chance to receive one of 10 $5 gift cards.
Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar — The next Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar will be Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 11:30 a.m., in SC 134. Mathematics major Tristen Sima ’17 will speak about his experiences at the University of Minnesota’s Summer Institute in Biostatistics. Refreshments will be served.
Phil and Lit – The next meeting of the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will be Friday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m., in McCoy West in Saemann Student Center. Dr Douglas Brusich, visiting assistant professor of biology, will be the speaker, and the title of his talk is What Flies Can Teach Us About Traumatic Brain Injury.
Food for Hoops — As part of Saint Elizabeth Week, there will be a canned food drive Tuesday, Nov. 15, during the home women’s and men’s basketball games, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Please bring canned food/nonperishables and drop them off by the ticket area outside Levick Arena (there will be a box for the food). Contact Madison Bloker with any questions or if you would like a copy of the “Food for Hoops” fliers to forward on to family/friends. Spread the word, and give what you CAN!

Service-learning class opportunity — Are you passionate about environmental and/or social mission-driven causes typically taken on by nonprofits? Want to get out of the textbook and into the action with real-world learning where unexpected things can happen? If the answer is yes, consider taking BA 377, Non-Profit Management, in Winter 2017. Wartburg W Challenge — From Nov. 6-23, take a picture of yourself in The W every time you use the facility outside of athletics (fieldhouse, center court, weight room, fitness classes, pool, etc.) and post it to Twitter. Use the hashtag #WartburgWChallenge, or email pictures directly to the Wartburg emails of Nicole Burgin, Trevor Larson, Michelle Hahn, Travis Bertelsen, Joshua Feirer, and Amanda Riniker. Every time you use this hashtag your name will be entered into a drawing for prizes! Prizes from The Wartburg Store include a Nike T-shirt and water bottles (infuser, straw, or Nike). The goal of this challenge is to increase student use of The W and improve the overall health of Wartburg College. Don’t wait until the new year to start your health aspirations; start now, and get rewarded for it. Election Day party — All are invited to an Election Day party on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 8-9:30 p.m., in the first-floor Clinton Lounge. Decorate a patriotic cookie, and color in your state map as you watch the election coverage.
Wartburg West informational session — Have you thought about participating in the Wartburg West Urban Studies program but would like more information? Bonita Bock, director of the program, and several students who have attended Wartburg West will be on hand to share their experiences and answer questions Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m., in WBC 101. The session is open to all students.
Learn more about Young Adults in Global Mission – Nicholas Sutherland, YAGM recruiter, will be at Wartburg on Thursday, Nov. 10, to talk to students about YAGM, a one-year international service opportunity for adults ages 21–29. Live a LIFE in Service — Give back, learn, and grow during a year of service through a Lutheran service organization. LIFE in Service is coming to Wartburg on Monday, Nov. 14, to kick off Saint Elizabeth Week. Kari Lenander from Border Servant Corps will be speaking at Weekday Chapel at 10:15 a.m., and alumni from the LIFE in Service programs will be tabling in the Student Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as hosting an informational dinner from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. in Chapel Commons (basement). KnightTime reminder — Students are reminded to wait at least one minute in between punching out of one position and clocking in for a second position at the time clock (i.e. punch out of first position at 9:01 a.m., and punch in to second position at 9:02 a.m.). Failing to do so will result in errors on your timecard that your supervisor will need to correct and may cause a delay in the processing of your work hours during payroll. Students are encouraged to review their work hours by logging into the InfoCenter and selecting “KnightTime Timecard” under the “Employment” tab.
Student-teacher meetings — The Education Department will offer two meeting times for students scheduled to student-teach during the 2017-18 academic year: 11:30 a.m. or 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in the Studio Classroom in Vogel Library. Instructions to complete the student-teaching application will be discussed as well as other information you’ll need to know as a student teacher.
Open interviews for LSI’s Bremwood — LSI will be conducting open interviews for full- and part-time positions working with youth at Bremwood Residential Treatment Center, Waverly, on Friday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Hansen Spiritual Life Center, 106 16th St. SW. If interested, please apply online prior to arrival at the open interviews.
Outfly Island T-shirts — Student Senate is reordering Outfly Island t-shirts for anyone that didn’t get a chance to buy them on Outfly. Shirts are $5 and come in three colors: coral, yellow and turquoise. To place an order, email senate@wartburg.edu with your size and color. Deadline to order is Friday, Nov. 4, by 4 p.m.
Christmas with Wartburg tickets — Tickets are on sale for shows Saturday, Dec. 3, at 3 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m., in Wartburg College’s Neumann Auditorium, as well as Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m., at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. Tickets are $18 for all Waverly performances and $20 for the West Des Moines performance. Meals will be offered in Waverly on Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m. for an additional cost. Students also are welcome to attend the dress rehearsal on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 30, for free with your student ID. Concert and meal tickets can be purchased online at www.wartburg.edu/christmas, from 10 a.m. to noon weekdays at the ticket office in Saemann Student Center, or by calling 319-352-8691 during ticket office hours.
Sustainability honor — Wartburg College has been recognized as a sustainability leader in the 2016 Sustainable Campus Index, receiving high rankings in the area of water for the second time in as many years. Recognition in the water category is based on advancements in water use and rainwater management. Wartburg tied for fifth nationally in this category, which honors efforts to conserve water and protect water quality. Click here for details.
