Naming ceremony — The Board of Regents approved the naming of the north and east wings of the Science Center after Dr. Ralph E. Otto '63 and his wife, Diane. The naming of Otto Science Hall will be celebrated at a public ceremony Thursday, Oct. 16, 4 p.m., in the Science Center Courtyard. Otto, a cardiothoracic surgeon, was a regent from 1992 until his death in 2008. The Ottos established an endowed scholarship and professorship named after Otto's chemistry professor, Dr. A.W. Swensen. The center's Becker Science Hall comprises the south and west wings and is named after the late Dr. Conrad H. Becker, the college's 12th president.

Senior Class Gift — The Senior Class Gift and Pledge effort will kick-off Thursday, Oct. 9, 8 p.m., at Joe’s Knight Hawk. Co-chairs Ali Brown, Jenna Manders, Chase Moser, and the SCGP team will be reaching out to class members about leaving a legacy now and how to UKnight to support Wartburg in the future. Coming Out Week— The annual Coming Out Week, sponsored by Alliance, includes the remaining events:
- Today, Oct. 9 — Dr. Dan Walther, professor of history, presents on Harvey Milk and the history of coming out, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in McCoy East.
- Friday, Oct. 10 — Alliance hosts info table by Mensa at lunch and dinner
Inspiring speakers — A husband and wife both afflicted with multiple sclerosis will share their story Thursday, Oct. 30, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in Science Center 102. Dan '95 and Jennifer Digmann have battled the chronic illness for more than 30 years combined. Their inspiring message, Create a Culture of Inclusion, will center on how they cope and rise above multiple sclerosis.
Service trip applications — Apply to lead one of Wartburg's service trips across the country this academic year. Applications are due Friday, Oct. 10. See the Wartburg College Service Trips Facebook page or contact servicetrips@wartburg.edu for more information.
May Term award letters — The Financial Aid Office will send out May Term award letters Monday, Oct. 20 for all students registered for a May Term 2015 class taking a trip. Contact the Financial Aid Office with any questions at finaid@wartburg.edu.
Phil and Lit — The Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will meet Friday, Oct. 10, 4 p.m., in McCoy West. Dr. Mariah Birgen, professor of mathematics, will present Thinking Mathematically: Was the New Dam Worth it?
German organist in concert — International performer Heinrich Walther will give an organ concert Friday, Oct. 10, 7:30 p.m., in Wartburg Chapel. Walther teaches at music colleges in Freiburg, Heidelberg, and Rottenburg, Germany, and is organist at Saint Matthieu Church, a 14th century landmark in Colmar, France. The free concert will include selections by Hungarian composer Franz Liszt and three composers from northern Spain’s Basque Country.
St. Lizzie's concert — St. Elizabeth Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Karen Black, will give a concert Sunday, Oct. 12, 4 p.m., in Wartburg Chapel. The free event will feature six selections.

Symphony season debut — The Charming Cello, a concert by esteemed cello soloist Jay Campbell, will open the Wartburg Community Symphony season Saturday, Oct. 18, 8 p.m., in Neumann Auditorium. Campbell won first prize at the 2012 Concert Artist Guild Auditions at The Juilliard School. Preconcert music by the Wartburg String Quartet, directed by Dr. Daniel Kaplunas, will begin at 7:30 p.m. A reception will follow Campbell’s performance.
