Be green — Campus Sustainability Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4. Check out the Be Green Fair, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., in the Saemann Student Center lobby, and a movie showing, 8:30 p.m., in Grossmann 16. The fair will feature student organizations that are sustainability or environmentally oriented, as well as organic food. A representative from Black Hawk County Green AmeriCorps will display a solar car. The evening showing of the movie Renewal is open to the public. Meet members of the student organization EARTH (Environmental Activists Reaching Toward Humanity) and watch the documentary that tells eight stories about the growing religious-environmental movement.

Dining Services survey — All who dine anywhere on campus are asked to participate in this year’s Dining Services customer satisfaction survey before Tuesday, Nov. 4. Each dining location will have cards with unique identifier codes used to access the online survey. Those who complete the survey and put their contact information on the printed card will be entered in a drawing for 20 prizes.
Office closed Tuesday — The Human Resources & Payroll Office will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 4, due to employees attending an out-of-town conference.
Holiday shop fundraiser — A fundraiser Tuesday, Nov. 4, will help the Department of Social Work run its Bremer County Holiday Shoppe. From 5 to 8 p.m. diners at The Fainting Goat can have 15 percent of their bill go toward the Holiday Shoppe by mentioning the fundraiser.

Keep on Learning series — Faculty and staff will discuss The Saint John’s Bible during the college’s Keep on Learning community education series beginning Thursday, Nov. 6. Participants will learn the history of illuminated Bibles and how imagery can help with reflection of scripture during The Saint John’s Bible, Illuminating the Word of God for a New Millennium. The Saint John’s Bible is a handwritten, illuminated Bible commissioned by Saint John’s Abbey and University and created by renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson. Two of its seven volumes — the Pentateuch and the Gospels and Acts — are on display at Wartburg through the end of the year. Keep on Learning classes continue Nov. 13, 20, and Dec. 4, 9:30-11:30 a.m., in the Heritage Room of Saemann Student Center. The first session is free; a $30 fee is due at the second.
Check your vehicle — The Waverly Police Department is investigating several thefts and holding recovered property. If items were taken from your vehicle while parked on campus or elsewhere in Waverly Tuesday, Oct. 21 or Wednesday, Oct. 22, call the Police Department at 352-5400 or Campus Security at 352-8372.
Higher ed conference — The 14th annual Conversation on the Liberal Arts Conference, Liberal Arts and the Social Good, will be Feb. 26-28, 2015, at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. This year’s conversation is provoked by ongoing debates about the state of American higher education. For more information visit www.westmont.edu/institute/conversations. Alumnus speaker available — Kevin Smith ’02 will be on campus Nov. 6-7. A seasoned international traveler with significant experience in China, he is willing to speak to classes about Asian topics, cultural adjustment, or successfully navigating unique opportunities.
