Santorum on campus today — Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum will visit campus today, Oct. 5, for a Wartburg College Republicans event at 3:30 p.m. in Whitehouse Business Center 214. Tickets are not required for the free event. The town hall format will include remarks from Santorum as well as time for questions from the audience. A former Pennsylvania senator, Santorum was the 2012 Iowa precinct caucuses winner. Click here to read more.
Enrollment, retention reports — The Enrollment Management Office has released three reports on InfoCenter:
Traveling exhibit plans Oct. 6 stop — A traveling exhibit exploring issues of Midwestern history and identity will stop at Wartburg Tuesday, Oct. 6. Housed in a retrofitted school bus, At Home in the Heartland: How Midwesterners Got to Be ‘Us’ will be outside Neumann Auditorium from 2 to 5 p.m. The free exhibit examines how the Midwest developed differently than other regions, how Iowa’s settlement distinguished it from its neighbors, and what blesses and burdens the state today. The “BUS-eum,” a project of the Mason City nonprofit TRACES Center for History and Culture, will visit all 99 Iowa counties within the next 18 months. Michael Luick-Thrams, TRACES director, will present his new book, Chasing Restless Roots: The Dreams that Lured Us Across America, at the Wartburg stop. Click here to read more.
Phil and Lit — Barbara Fedeler, professor of art, will present Flatness and Space: Drawings of Arizona and Mississippi for the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society Friday, Oct. 9, 4 p.m., in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. The presentation focus is the artwork produced during Fedeler’s 2015 sabbatical while an artist-in-residence at the Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site, the Amerind Foundation, and the Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge.
Play a possible tie to IS 101 — Kristin Teig Torres, assistant director of the Center for Community Engagement, will appear in a play that could be used as subject matter for Inquiry Studies 101 courses. Teig Torres, a University of Northern Iowa alumna, will return to UNI's Strayer Wood Theatre to portray the emotionally troubled mother in Lee Blessing’s Independence. Teig Torres suggests the play would be useful to compare to Wartburg's Readings in Common selection, The Other Wes Moore. Both stories tell of a dysfunctional family and the barriers or systems that limit choices. The production hits the stage starting Thursday, Oct. 8. Seminar features alumnus — The next Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar will be Tuesday, Oct. 6, 11:30 a.m., in Science Center 134. Brad Schaefer '07, a physics/math alumnus, will discuss his post-Wartburg activities and career path in a presentation, Evidence for the Practical Application of Graduate School Study in a Field Unrelated to Studied Field as Told by a Physics PhD.
Updates to Staff Handbook — The Staff Handbook has been updated and posted to InfoCenter.
Swim club starts tonight — The Knight's Swim Club, formerly the Master's Swim Club, will begin its season tonight, Oct. 5, with an informational meeting at 7:30 p.m. in The W's Wet Classroom. Coached by Janet McCullough, the program is perfect for anyone looking to improve their technique or enhance their overall fitness and flexibility. The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 7:30 a.m. For more information, click here.
Career expo Tuesday — Encourage students to attend the Wartburg Career, Internship, Graduate, and Professional School Expo Tuesday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., in The W Hall of Champions. The expo is sponsored by the Pathways Center and the Center for Community Engagement.

Security and fire safety report — The 2015-16 Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report has been released online. This required report contains crime statistics from 2012 to 2014 and addresses the college’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, such as responding to emergency situations and reporting sexual misconduct. Additionally, the report contains information related to fire safety. You can request a paper copy in the Campus Security Office in Saemann Student Center.
