Constitution Day program — International scholar David Keane will speak at a program highlighting human rights law to commemorate Constitution Day Tuesday, Sept. 22. Fifty Years of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Whitehouse Business Center 214. A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture, which is sponsored by Wartburg and the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights. Keane’s lecture will focus on the history and impact of the human rights treaty intended to eliminate racial discrimination, the United States’ involvement in the treaty and its impact on a wider understanding of racial discrimination. Stargazing opportunity— Platte Observatory will be open to the public Friday, Sept. 18, 8-10 p.m., weather permitting. Last Friday's open house was postponed due to cloud cover. It is located between the soccer and football practice fields. By car, take 20th Street north past Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community and enter a driveway on the right, near the railroad tracks. Park on the grassy area between the railroad tracks. Please keep these tips in mind:
- You may need a flashlight to get across the field. Red lights and lenses, or a red film over a normal light, will help preserve night vision.
- Bathrooms are not available.
- Dress as if it will be colder than you think.
- If you apply bug repellent, do so away from the observatory.

Run for Student Senate — Student Senate election applications are due today, Sept. 17, and can be found here. The general election meeting will take place tonight at 8 p.m. in WBC 116. Elections will be held through email on Thursday, Sept. 24. All senators will be required to attend orientation Sunday, Sept. 27, 5-8 p.m., at Waverly City Hall. Questions can be directed to senate@wartburg.edu.
Math Lab changes — Pathways Center is excited to announce the relocation of the Math Lab to Vogel Library Classroom 1. The lab is open Sunday to Thursday, 7-10 p.m., and is staffed by trained student tutors who provide assistance for the following classes:

- MA 106 - Mathematics in Modern Society
- MA 107 – Finite Mathematics
- MA 110 – Structures of Mathematics I
- MA 190 – Precalculus

Track and field rummage sale — The track and field program will sell apparel Friday, Oct. 2, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m., in the Canfield Strength & Conditioning Room of The W. Cash or checks will be accepted. Items include T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, hats, and more.
Poverty simulation — The Volunteer Action Center will hold a poverty simulation Saturday, Sept. 20, 2 p.m., in Knights Ballroom, Saemann Student Center. To take part or help staff the event, email povertysim@wartburg.edu.

Latino Heritage Festival — Wartburg is a sponsor of and exhibitor at the Latino Heritage Festival, held on the downtown bridges of Des Moines Saturday, Sept. 26-Sunday, Sept. 27. The 15-year-old event attracts between 10,000 and 20,000 people annually.
Need some cash? — The Wartburg Store is seeking to buy back the Inquiry Studies reader, Asking Questions, Making Choices with a copyright of 2012. The first 50 students to do so will receive $21.50.
KWAR seeks hosts — KWAR's first meeting and show sign up is Tuesday, Sept. 22, 7 p.m., in McElroy Center 133. KWAR is a great way to get involved on campus, and is a very low, flexible time commitment. With questions, contact Jarren Ford at jarren.ford@wartburg.edu.
Information available — The U.S. Department of Education requires institutions receiving federal funding to provide notice regarding the availability of consumer information and voter registration information. The consumer information regards general college facts and statistics, financial aid assistance, an annual security report, copyright infringement, family educational rights, and Privacy Act policies. WartburgAlert test — The college's emergency notification system, WartburgAlert, will be tested today, Sept. 17, around noon. The campus community is encouraged to register for automatic notifications by clicking here. WartburgAlert is tested at least once per term. The system allows up to two numbers for text notifications and four numbers for voice messages; text notification is encouraged. For assistance registering, visit the Security Office Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Contact campus.security@wartburg.edu with questions or to verify previous registrations.
Ren Faire registration — Registration for the Renaissance Faire ends today Sept. 17. Click here to reserve a booth. If your campus organization needs a cash bag, contact Sherri Mennenga, financial services coordinator, at ext. 8411 or stop by the Business Office before noon Wednesday, Sept. 23. All student organizations must have a form, available in the Business Office, signed by their adviser. Bags can be picked up Friday, Oct. 2.
Phil & Lit — Drs. Kathryn Kleinhans, professor of religion; Kim Eversman, assistant professor of education; and Lizbeth Gehring, assistant professor of English education, will present A Little Knight Reading: Why You Should Care What the Class of 2019 is Reading (The Other Wes Moore) for the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society Friday, Sept. 18, 4 p.m., in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. The society meets most Friday afternoons during the academic year for presentations by a colleague in an informal, convivial setting. Beverages and snacks are available. Board plan changes — The deadline to change board plans for Fall Term is today, Sept. 17, 4:30 p.m. Ask any dining cashier or the Dining Office (where ID pictures are taken) to scan your card and tell you which board plan you are on if you are unsure. Make all board plan changes in the Dining Office.
Refund checks — Student account refund check requests need to be received in the Business Office before noon Monday, Sept. 21. Checks can be picked up Wednesday, Sept. 23. This applies only to students who have a credit balance on their student account.
Genetics career event — The Iowa Institute of Human Genetics is hosting Careers in Human Genetics Information Day Friday, Sept. 18, to expose students to career opportunities in human genetics. This opportunity is a great way for students to discuss careers and ask questions in a small-group setting. Click here for more information or to register.

Homecoming Court — Congratulations to the 2015 Homecoming Court. Voting will be Monday, Sept. 28 through Wednesday, Sept. 30. God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday — God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday begins with a worship service Sept. 27, 10:30 a.m., in Wartburg Chapel. The service includes Holy Communion and music led by summer camp staff members. Service projects begin at 11 a.m., and lunch will be provided. Daytrotter promotion — Wartburg is excited to announce a promotion with Daytrotter, the world-renowned, Quad Cities-based music studio and website that recorded Mumford & Sons and many other Gentlemen of the Road artists in Bachman Fine Arts Center during the June festival. Daytrotter records artists in genres from electronica to country. Members have full access to the site and can download any session.
