Stargazing opportunity
 — Platte Observatory will be open to the public Friday, Sept. 18, 8-10 p.m., weather permitting. Last Friday's open house was postponed due to cloud cover. It is located between the soccer and football practice fields. By car, take 20th Street north past Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community and enter a driveway on the right, near the railroad tracks. Park on the grassy area between the railroad tracks. Please keep these tips in mind:

  • You may need a flashlight to get across the field. Red lights and lenses, or a red film over a normal light, will help preserve night vision.
  • Bathrooms are not available.
  • Dress as if it will be colder than you think.
  • If you apply bug repellent, do so away from the observatory.

For more information, contact Dr. Charlie Figura, Platte Observatory director, at charles.figura@wartburg.edu.

The forums will be in Hagemann Castle Room of Saemann Student Center Friday, Sept. 25, 7:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Oct. 21, 4 p.m.; and Tuesday, Dec. 8, 11:30 a.m.
